Tuberculosis In Poultry Warns State Veterinarian
Dr. Alvin Broerman state veterinarian told Ohio Poultry Day attendees at the State Experiment Station that fowl tuberculosis, first noted about twenty five years ago, is now widespread in many parts of Ohio. He describes symptoms including emaciation pale comb and wattles and weak inactive birds despite good appetite. A post mortem may reveal liver lesions. The avian tuberculin test causes a swelling within 48 hours if diseased. He urges killing all diseased birds and, in heavily infested flocks, slaughtering the entire flock after laying season ends. He also recommends thorough disinfection with carbolic acid or cresol solution or lime sprayed with crude carbolic acid, and the destruction of rats and other disease carriers.

Brown county officials and prohibition agents found three moonshine stills on Charles Berwanger’s farm near Fayetteville. No mash or liquor was recovered.
