An 85 year old farmer Chris Filiger was found to have killed himself by slashing his throat at his Batavia area farm home last Thursday. Despondency is suspected as the motive. He leaves two children Galen and Mrs. George Carter. Funeral services were held Sunday at Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Spangler officiating and burial at Union Hill Cemetery.

Byron Barbeau left Tuesday evening for the Canal Zone boarding a train for the first leg of his trip and will sail from New York Thursday aboard the liner S S Ancon. John Paschal of Batavia Ohio has been named a Army Flying Cadet scholarship recipient at Fifth Corps Area HQ Fort Hayes Columbus Ohio. He is among 243 cadets in the February class the largest group since the Flying Cadet program expanded last June. Cadets begin nine months of flight training February 13 at Spartan School of Aeronautics Tulsa Oklahoma with $750 monthly during training and clothing. Upon graduation they become second lieutenants in the Air Corps Reserve earning $205 monthly.
