All county schools except Amelia will reopen Thursday after a flu wave. Owensville and Batavia already resumed Monday. Batavia to play Williamsburg Friday. Basketball schedules restart Friday as weather improves and illness abates, with hundreds of students affected.
Goshen resident Fred Yoemans resigned from the Clermont County Fair Board at Owensville school during a regular meeting. John E. Heywood of Goshen will fill the vacancy. The fair runs August 12 to 15 with horse showing and entertainment. committees for the coming fair have been appointed.
Miss Jean Elizabeth Binning daughter of Mr and Mrs E D Binning of Batavia Route 2 married Paul G McAfee son of Mr and Mrs George H McAfee of this place. Rev C N Fisher of Bethel officiated. Mrs McAfee works as deputy in Lee Hannah Clerk of Courts office and is active in the younger set. McAfee a Batavia High School graduate and state highway department instrument man. They reside at Gregg Apartments and will be at home to friends.

Those leaving Batavia courthouse on January 31 go to Freeman Avenue Armory Cincinnati for a medical checkup before processing camps in the state.
The U S Fish and Wildlife Service reports Ohio ranks second in the nation for licensed fishermen with 627 972 licenses. Michigan leads with 858 362 while the United States total reaches 7 858 275 licenses. Ohio holds about one thirteenth of all licensed fishermen nationwide.
A local appeal encourages business leaders to craft readable attractive advertisements and offer giveaways to attract readers. The message stresses measurable results from well designed ads and urges Clermont County merchants to act now.
In 38 states farmers formed 409 soil conservation associations and districts cover 270 million acres. J S Cutler says Ohio lags. only a few states lack such laws. Legislation may be proposed to authorize farmer led groups without tax or bond powers.
Local Legionnaires will attend the third annual National Defense Day dinner dance in Cincinnati at the Hotel Netherland Plaza on February 8. Major Herbert R. Conover of the National Defense committee announces the event chaired by Judge William E. Handley with invited civic groups from the Ohio Valley. In January 1917 eighteen farm women formed East Fork Progressive Farm Woman's Club near Greenburg and Marathon, with Irene Harbaugh Mabel Mulloy and Lena White as long standing members. They celebrate the club's twenty fourth anniversary with a pot luck supper at George Caldwell's country home. Plans for the Fift h annual President's Ball at Batavia Armory on Saturday January 25 aim to surpass prior years. Proceeds support victims of paralysis with a nine PM floor show featuring The Sparklers Flash and Dash Dot Wood Billy Snider and Kentucky Colonels plus a gala music exhibit promising value and entertainment for attendees. Paul Blockers chairs the ball committee.
The Junior Women's Club will meet on Thursday January 23 at the home of Mrs Raymond Ross to elect officers for the ensuing year.
Local Draft Board No. 2 lists the men departing Thursday for Fort Thomas Kentucky for final exams and induction into the U S Army for a year. After Camp Knox they may join the 37th Division of the Ohio National Guard at Camp Shelby Mississippi. A smaller February contingent is expected with about 12 men from boards. A double header basketball slate will be staged in the Amelia High School gym on Tuesday evening January 28. The opener features Green Trees against Milford at 8 p m followed by Green Trees versus Williamsburg. General admission is 25 cents with a cash door prize and music.

Conservation Commissioner Don Waters reports 259 December arrests for fish and game law violations. Convictions yielded fines totaling 5 625 and costs 1 358 62 with 2 085 in fines and 61 60 in costs suspended by justices of the peace.
