In Hillsboro Ohio on January 21 1925 two men suspected of fatally shooting Deputy County Surveyor Harry T Magill Jr in front of the county jail were chased after a botched burglary. They were captured later in Springfield and returned for a first degree murder indictment. Prosecutor Harold Predmore leads the case.

In Marl Cut New Jersey a head on collision between two Norfolk & Western freight trains killed Hillsboro brakeman N. Vance on his first run and critically injured Portsmouth fireman D. B. Dyer. Four cars derailed on one train and one on the other, tracks damaged over 600 yards, traffic delayed for hours as others escaped by jumping.

Manure's Value Increases Yields On Clermont County Soils
An agricultural note discusses a four year trial on a two crop rotation with clover, showing four tons per acre of stall manure applied to corn raised yields by 1.55 bushels and wheat by 1.12 bushels per acre per ton. Adding 40 pounds of 16 percent acid phosphate per ton boosted corn by 2.97 and wheat by 1.35 bushels per acre per ton. Untreated manure valued at about $2.85 per ton, with phosphate adding to $3.52. A separate seed corn disease test found seven to eight tons of manure plus 300 pounds acid phosphate per acre yielded 22.3 bushels per acre versus 3.7 without fertilizer, highlighting manure’s soil life benefits.

Last Friday night at the armory Batavia high school boys and girls each won by one point. The girls beat Milford 14 to 13 in a practiced game, not counted in class B wins. A boys game with New Richmond was canceled due to smallpox. The Business Men's Club provided a 12 to 11 practice win over the high school. This Wednesday the teams meet Owensville, expected to be strong.
