Cockfighting raid nets 127 arrests at Clermont barn

Deputies from Clermont County sheriffs office raided a Bolender Road barn on January 23 with a search warrant, seizing 80 fighting cocks and other equipment. Nine dead birds and a revolver were found, along with drug gear. Juvenile charges noted. adults to appear January 28 in Clermont County Court. Birds kept in a large arena and housing rooms. animals to be sheltered at the county facility.

Clermont County Officials Award Raises Across Departments

Clermont County commissioners approved pay increases for numerous department heads and sewer and Warren Consortium staff. Welfare head Charles Ashmore rose from $13.30 to $14.60 per hour, a nine percent hike, effective Jan. 3. Buildings chief Robert Hanley up to $10.58 from $8.65, a 22 percent rise, effective Jan. 1. Frank Ramundo, chief enforcement at buildings, from $15.50 to $16.59, seven percent, effective Jan. Martha Dorsey, Human Services director, 7 percent from $10.34 to 11.06 effective Jan. 10. Seven percent boosts also went to coal water and sewer district managers Donald Reckers, Fred Montgomery and James Singleton. Sewer and water department employees received a six percent increase effective Jan. 3. Interim Clermont Warren Consortium director Steve Brooks gained five percent at $12.92, effective Jan. 10, with five percent cost of living raises for all Consortium employees. County officials expect a new county administrator within two to three weeks as James Buckner resigns to become Milford city manager January 10. The three commissioners weigh candidates on ability to work with department heads and justify project funding.

Guns cited in Weston trial as jury adjourns without testimony

Janis Freeman and Milan marshal Dennis Ryker prepared to testify as Weston’s trial entered its third week for the Stevenson killing. Prosecutors offered 41 exhibits while defense objected to items including a silenced .22 pistol and a burned stash. fingerprints on a wrapper and a separate bill were disputed, and the judge admitted most evidence despite contested prints and vehicle identification.

Winn found guilty of murder in Clermont County case

Edward Brent Winn, 39, was found guilty of murder by a Clermont County Common Pleas Court jury in Batavia. The verdict came after a nine hour, 40 minute deliberation over a case charging aggravated murder, which jurors rejected. they did convict on lesser counts of murder and involuntary manslaughter for the Sept. 17, 1982 attack on Johanie Brooks at the Zimmer Nuclear Power Station turbine room. Brooks died five days later. Witnesses testified Winn struck Brooks with a 2 by 4 during a dispute prompted by layoffs at Catalytic Inc. in Philadelphia, with multiple witnesses confirming the assault.
