Cincinnati Nature Center runs weekend birdwatching programs for youths ages 13 to 18. Four sessions start at noon each Saturday with a May all day field trip to observe 100 plus bird species starting before dawn with owl hooting. Registration is limited. cost 12 dollars. Batavia based Clermont College Personal Growth Career Resource Center presents a three session career search group for exploring career changes. Ida Kennard chairing the Welfare Advisory Committee says Children’s Services are understaffed in Clermont County. A meeting with county commissioners discussed a 0.5 percent sales tax increase and a levy to fund eight caseworkers, four aides, and a typist. The advisory group argues caseloads are far above recommended levels and urges budget increases to protect children from abuse and neglect.
Ford workers at the Batavia plant face more layoffs as 66 employees are slated to be cut starting Monday January 25. Union official Lonnie Lewis says the plant may stay open for three weeks before a five week shutdown, with 1800 workers recalled on January 14.
