Clermont County Health and Welfare Planning Council Board of Directors will meet at 5 30 p m on Thursday January 25 at 233 Main St Batavia. County budget talks cap general fund at four million

County commissioners begin a two week review of department budget requests for the 1979 fiscal year led by Auditor Rymer who says the general fund will top at 4 million dollars. Despite 8 million in requests only 4 million is available, with funds allocated from taxes fines and prior balances, plus other sources, and incremental transfers. The article notes reappraisal raised Clermont County property values and outlines tax bills due February 14 along with the role of the tax chart and the board of tax revision.

Bank moves to Goshen as Clermont opens new branch

A brick 24 by 44 foot former real estate office was moved along SR 132 to clear space for First National Bank of Clermont County’s Goshen branch at SR 28 and SR 132. The one story structure was transported by Wm. Davis Mover, with Goshen police stopping traffic and utility crews on site. The bank plans a colonial style branch designed by Jack Gore with a Bethel main office and recent expansions in Amelia, Williamsville, Milford, and Day Heights. The bank also seeks a seventh branch at 420 Walnut Street under a new state law permitting cross county branches. approval is expected in 90 days.

Three filed for Clermont election in Batavia Ohio

Three candidates filed for local offices at the Clermont County Board of Elections in Batavia. John Heywood seeks Goshen Township Trustee, filling the seat left by the late Donald Edwards after about a year as trustee. Virgil D. Jones and James Téegarden filed for West Clermont School Board.

Padded cells urged for jail by Clermont board

Clermont Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board urged padded cells and a private area for psychiatric counseling in the new jail. They recommended segregating prisoners by offense, exercise facilities, and supporting a half cent sales tax or other funds to resolve the jail’s finances. The board praised the sheriff's department for cleanliness and concern for prisoners during the visit.

Snider Elected to Ohio Trustees Association Board

Art Snider, Goshen Township trustee, was elected to the State Board of Directors of Trustees and Clerks at the 51st Ohio State Convention in Columbus January 17 to 20. Three of eight nominated were elected. Clermont County sent 17 trustees and clerks. over 1400 attendees represented 5800 statewide. New Clermont leaders named: President Larry Cadwallader, Vice President Jerry Carrier, Secretary-Treasurer Minton Christman.
