Demurrer Sustained in McMullen v Miller Marriage Case

Common Pleas Judge Wm A Joseph sustained the demurrer in Virginia McMullen versus Louise Miller last week. The court dismissed the petition for lack of a stated cause of action, ruling a parent may advise a child to breach a marriage contract so long as no force fraud or slander is used. The ruling also dismissed a similar claim against Lee G Miller’s sister Les.

The Batavia Woman's Club met with Mrs. Werner on Saturday afternoon January 13 and elected officers for the coming year: President Mrs. B. W. Sprague, 1st vice president Mrs. F A Ireton, 2nd vice president Miss Elizabeth Marsh, recording secretary Mrs. W C Robinson, corresponding secretary treasurer Mrs. Elizabeth Werner. An open meeting is set for Saturday January 27 at 7:30 PM at the Presbyterian church with Dr Hefflebower giving an illustrated lecture on Charles Dickens and a silver offering to be taken.

The Batavia market held its January 9 sale with large attendance and the season’s top offers. Nonscripts sold from 63 to 13,16 to 2le and other grades ranged. total offerings 85,060 with an average of 28,438. January 11 mixed tobacco sale also strong until afternoon. offerings 65,645 and average 25.01. Clermont County Bar Association to meet January 28 at 7 p.m. to discuss John R. Woodlief’s death January 11. he was the area’s oldest bar member and connected with Judge Frank Davis.

Farmers Week at State University Announces Large Ohio Event

Clermont Farm Bureau schedules Farmers Week at Ohio State University Columbus from January 29 to February 2 with over two hundred events. The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation meeting is a major draw on Tuesday and Wednesday. Premium changes at the Clermont County Fair include new classifications for poultry and updated horse swine, dairy, pantry and art awards.
