Deductions for Farmers Under War Revenue Act Rules
The Bureau explains allowed business expense deductions for farmers. Deductions cover labor for land prep and crop care, seed and fertilizer, livestock care and feed, repair costs on farm buildings, fences, machinery upkeep, and small tools used up in a year or two. Machinery purchase is not deductible, but operating costs are. Taxable value of farm products occurs when cash is received. 1917 crops sold in 1917 count, crops on hand at year end need not be. Revenue officers will visit counties in January and February to aid taxpayers, with returns due by March 1.

Midnight Trip To Cincinnati For Ben Hur
A Batavian party traveled to Cincinnati last Saturday to see Ben Hur on stage. Ordered tickets kept them committed despite 16 below zero weather and a long return by train due to engine trouble and deep snow drifts. Passengers included Miss Shirley Griffith and three other women plus men Will Blabop H B Moore and son William. The matinee was enjoyed and the trip deemed well worth it.
