The Board of Economic Warfare reports Germany remains a formidable ally but near production peak. Japan strengthens in materials yet lacks shipping. Both axis powers face shortages in leather, glass, and fuel, while wartime measures boost butter, eggs for hatchings, margarine use, and battery production.
Price Administrator Henderson orders withdrawal of fuel oil heating for nonresidential buildings unless proof of conversion to another fuel is provided by February 16, 1943. The Victory Class of the Methodist Church Sunday Schools hosts a soup lunch on Monday January 18 starting at 11 30 a m. Homemade chicken noodle soup salad pie and coffee will be served for eight cents.

Mrs. Emery Brooks of New Richmond won first prize in a nationwide wartime recipe contest from over 20 000 entrants. She will spend days in Washington and New York, appear on a national broadcast, and visit notable sites in the two cities. Her family molasses cake and cookie recipe dates back years.
Batavia Lodge will install its officers on Friday night January 15 1943. A luncheon for attendees will be served following the installation.

The Clermont Publishing Co. stockholders met at the Courier offices on Saturday January 9. Officers elected include George W. Gregg president Ralph D. Fuhr vice president and James W. Walker secretary treasurer. Directors named were John Fuhr A. L. Behymer and others.
Annual Winter meeting of County Fruit Growers will be held at U B Church in Batavia on Thursday January 21 at 10 30 a m The program features Frank Beach OSU extension fruit specialist T H Parks insect specialist and C C Allison fruit disease specialist with prize fruit show for best plates of common varieties All interested in fruit production invited to attend.
Clermont County forms a Victory Garden committee led by John Friend and Roy Battles to implement the 1943 program. The plan includes promoting garden production, balanced crops for year round use, and canning to save limited wartime rations.

Ohio motorists were asked by H G Sours to place the 1943 license sticker in the lower right hand corner of the windshield. He noted many already display federal stamps and ration stickers there to keep law enforcement visibility uniform.
The Garden Club of Batavia postpones its January 18 meeting indefinitely as speaker Andrew Berding, now in the Armed Forces, cannot obtain leave. The next regular meeting, led by President Mrs. James W. Walker, will be February 19 at Mrs. Frank Abbott's home.
