Freight Wreck on N W R R at Williamsburg

A freight wreck on the Norfolk and Western Railway in Williamsburg occurred last Saturday morning. Thirteen cars left the rails of a through freight train, with one car containing eggs and other merchandise damaged. The incident involved heavy grades near the crossing as the front end failed to clear the rear, causing cars to shed on and off the track. The wreck blocked the line for about four hours with no injuries reported.

Mothers Pensions in Libermont County Await Action

Numerous applications for mothers pensions sit in the probate office as no funds exist yet for statewide support. The February distribution will provide pro rata payments to eligible widows with children, with amounts as low as 2.50 for additional children and up to 15 for a single-child widow.

Batavia Lodge No. 104 held an energetic meeting to promote a charity play chosen from manuscripts. A three act baron lodge work is planned for public views and a special meeting is set for Thursday at 7 15 to organize details. All masons are urged to attend and assist the social event.

County auditors examine the city’s indebtedness to Dayton hospital for upkeep. The clerk’s bill nears $1000. Funds to cover are in a long-defunct source, risking the hospital’s refusal to accept service without payment.

Batavia Boy Marries In Simple Home Ceremony

Margaret Vosburgh daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Steffen marries Lieut. Isaac E. Titus in a 6 o'clock ceremony at the bride’s sister’s home 604 Oak Street Dayton. Rev. Harmes officiates with Emma Steffen and Eugene Steffen as attendants. The couple plans a wedding dinner and a trip to Cincinnati before visiting Titus’s mother in Batavia. Titus, Purdue 1905 civil engineering graduate, serves as adjutant at Fort Logan and first lieutenant of coast artillery.

Soldiers Relief Delayed in Clermont County

The Clermont county soldiers relief fund has about 350 dollars available for soldiers and widows but no relief has been distributed for a year. The relief board, short on members and money, plans to issue checks in February after monthly meetings. widows in need urge immediate payment while the fund lasts.

Grand Jury Opens January Term Under Judge Joaph

The January term opened with Judge Wm. A. Joaph presiding. The grand jury met with all summoned members except two, who were replaced by Thomas C. Teal and Geo. Wolf chosen from bystanders. Jury selections previously made by sheriff or bailiff, four others volunteered. The jury was sworn and instructed, escorted to the jury room by Prosecutor Idel as proceedings began. The jail is currently without prisoners.

Tobacco Growers Seek Better Prices as Market Sags

Local tobacco growers report low prices 8 to 12 cents with a dull market. In Augusta 500000 pounds were offered, first bids at 10 cents and some at 71/2. farmers withdrew offerings, crops hauled back. Christian county growers sign an agreement to hold until pricing justifies sale, forming a committee and charging 1 percent for secretary duties.

Clermont county boards of education hold inaugural meeting

The first annual meeting of Clermont county boards of Education is set for Friday January 15 at 10 a.m. in BataVia courthouse. The session opens with call to order by the County Superintendent and a roll call of board members. Centralization discussion noted with names listed and a general round table planned where any member may pose questions with speeches limited to three minutes.

The Personnel of Boards of Education holds a noon to 1 pm round table discussion led by Dr. C J Spence with Lester Ivins and other officials. Topics include the new school law fair trial, school work exhibits, treasurer duties, uniform textbooks and teaching methods, tardiness penalties, standardized schools, centralization, school start dates and holidays, one room schools, normal schools, teacher salaries, and home project work. Howard Taft Drummond the beloved son of J W and F M Drummond was born July 28 1908 in Amelia Ohio and died December 2 1914 at age 6 years 4 months 2 days. He showed kindness and unselfishness and asked his mother to rock the baby as he comforted his family and friends in illness. Archer Clifford Davidson Dies After Navy Service

Archer Clifford Davidson born January 8 1888 near Afton Clermont county Ohio died December 19 1914 in Richmond Virginia aged 26 years 11 months 20 days. He joined the Navy December 9 at age 20 and left his birthplace long ago to serve. He is survived by five brothers William George Joseph Rufus Nathan and a sister Mrs Effe Miller. The family laid him to rest in the Williamsburg Ohio family lot with both parents already deceased.

No Known Reason For Jesse Orendorff Suicide Drowns Himself

Brown County man Jesse L. Orendorff aged 65 a respected Lewis township citizen died by self inflicted drowning in a spring on his Hopkins farm last Saturday morning. He rose early lit a fire and vanished leaving a revolver behind a note in his coat said he could bear life no longer. The body was found in a shallow spring after an overcoat hung on a post. Survived by a widow and a son, he was a churchman and Sunday school superintendent with no evident cause for despondency.

Electric Service Trials At Georgetown Plants

Chief Electrician Jonas of the C. G. and P. plans to install motors in Georgetown factories to test the cheapness and reliability of day current. If successful, many firms along the line may adopt motors as the new power, which would run when needed and offer steadier, cheaper service. Applications to Mr Jonas will receive prompt attention.

A dance event announced for Friday evening at the Armory with a large expected crowd. A string orchestra will play square dances while piano and drums provide round dances. Committee aims to please all attendees and guarantees a good time. Admission is given in cents.

Sunday school workers gathered at Batavia M E church for county wide meetings. Rev Darling formerly of this county gave two addresses and visiting workers spoke. Attendance was lower than hoped as teachers and superintendents were urged to attend.
