The John Lyons residence at 30 Chapel Road, Amelia, burned Tuesday with the fire department arriving at 2 20 pm. BMOP called for help at 2 27 pm and Williamsville Fire Dept. arrived. by 2 32 pm the house was gutted. No occupants were present. Firemen attributed the blaze to a heater in the front room though the cause remains undetermined.

Batavia Council Approves 1973 City Appropriations
Batavia council Monday night approved 1973 operating appropriations of 239145 dollars. Mayor Richard Jamieson cited inheritance tax receipts of 14000 dollars aiding the year end. The plan calls for sidewalk replacements, tree work, and annexation west to Clermont College. 1972 fines and costs totaled 5894 dollars with additional income from franchises zoning permits and breathalyzer use. A new fire truck and firehouse are near completion funded by a bond issue, a new police cruiser is expected, and leaf loader purchase is under review. Lou Darbro reappointed street commissioner and Jim delegates Firemen’s Board.
