Clermont County commissioners approved the budget requests totaling $660,688 down from $668,832 with anticipated revenue of $683,371. A $10,000 item to enable county wide voter registration was approved and voter registration in ten townships will begin in August. Sheriff’s department funding was reduced to $71,260 from $88,880 as villages will pay for their prisoners.
A spoof page by Tom and Jory Herbert Hoberg revisits miscues and humor for the new year. It notes a name correction, then presents a string of jokes about wives, doctors, luck, and daily life, concluding with a lighthearted math puzzle.
Fred Hoh juvenile probation officer was elected president of the Clermont County Peace Officers Association at a Wednesday meeting in The Courier building. Robert Vice Williamsburg police chief was named vice president with other officers including Robert Patchell secretary Richard Tennison treasurer Sam Hughes sergeant at arms and Nellie Mattox public relations. Next meeting set for February 2 at Batavia courthouse.
A boy named Jerome was born January 1 at 4 27 p m weighing eight pounds nine and a half ounces to Victor and Helen Ratliff of 426 Lindale Pike Amelia. Attending physician was Dr. H Hines of Cincinnati.
William McClanahan 25 remains in critical condition at Good Samaritan Hospital after a salamander tipped flaming oil into a star well at the Sharonville Purina plant. John Henderson of Cincinnati died from the burns, with two other workers sustaining minor injuries.
AMELIA Parker Adams was re elected president of the West Clermont board of education at its re organizational meeting held Tuesday night at Amelia school. William Hickson was named vice president and Floyd Weaver, clerk. The board ordered monthly fire inspections of district schools and approved appropriations of 1 070 284 for 1959. Inspections will be by area fire departments with reports to the board. BMOP will inspect Amelia schools and other departments will inspect Mt Carmel Summerside Annex and Withamsville schools.
Clermont County health board requires all milk producers and plants to pay a 35 dollar annual license fee and 4 dollars per truck hauling processed dairy products starting January 15. Revenue is expected at 630 dollars from licenses and 167 from truck fees to fund milk testing. The board also adopts the state plumbing code with revisions on recommendation of Dr. A. G. Schulze and J. W. Smith.
J Kermit Smith was re-elected president of the Williamsburg board of education at its last meeting. Dan McAdams was named vice president and Richard Hamm clerk. Mrs Mable Storer was named assistant clerk and secretary to Albert W Durose, the school superintendent.
