Mrs. Grant S. Van Horn presented her husband with a pretty girl on Saturday morning January 8, 1903. The birth brings joy to Dr. Van Horn and many relatives including Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hulick who become grandparents for the first time.
A sharp quarrel unfolds between two girls with biting taunts about parentage and adoption. One declares the other has no parents, while the other retorts she was carefully selected, and contrasts their families with a biting remark about parental choice.
The new superintendent of the O. G. & P. required a $50,000 cash grant and 100 workers to upgrade the Georgetown to Cincinnati rail route. The funds and labor were approved, enabling ballasting with crushed stone, track leveling, and a reduced travel time to one hour and a half between terminals.

The body of Le Roy Gales aged three days was found in bed with its mother at 5 am Tuesday at the county infirmary. Dr Snider summoned the coroner, an inquest was held and the verdict was accidental death by suffocation.

The Amelia Woman's Club hosted its annual January 1, 1908 social at Mr and Mrs James R Hicks home. The evening featured a rare musical program with Thomas Somermeier of Kansas City as soloist, festive decor, two prize games, a dining room serving a sizable crowd, club colors yellow and white, and keepsakes of carnation favors. W A Watkins died suddenly at the Gitson House in Cincinnati last Sunday from heart disease. His funeral was held today at ten oclock under the auspices of Yeat man Masonic Lodge and Commodore Foote post No 2006. He was a native of this county and well liked by many friends.
A pleasant shooting event last Saturday gathered boys to test eye, judgment, and aim across 25 birds. The score stood as follows with participants measuring accuracy and marksmanship in a friendly contest.
Nettie L Ashton daughter of Mrs M E Ashton and George D Sprague of Atlanta Georgia wed at the Batavia M E church on January 1 1903 Rev J D Darling officiating. Bridesmaid Louise K McNutt and best man Stanley S Hulick attended as male guests. A reception followed at the Ashton home and the couple will reside in Atlanta after January 15 1903.
