Area Students Compete In Assignment Heart Contest

Area students compete in a science report contest run by the Heart Association of Southwestern Ohio and supported by many schools. Ten winners receive engraved plaques. the top paper earns a large rotating school trophy. Clermont County participants include five Amelia Glen Este and Williamsburg students with various school activities and honors.

Surplus Funds Return To Townships and Villages

Clermont County Board of Health reported over 16000 in surplus funds will be returned to townships and villages this year. Additional revenue from Union Township sewer system permits added over 7000 to the total. The board also approved joining the state vision and hearing testing program for county elementary and high schools with Alice Johnson named supervisor, starting shortly after February 1.

Campbell Stays As WC Board Head In 1966 Roster

West Clermont Board of Education re elected William Campbell as president for 1966 with Russell Fisher as vice president. New members Dr Jerry F Stara and Douglas H Pattison were sworn in. Chris Rosenhoffer retained. Regular meetings set for second Mondays at Amelia and at Clermont high schools. A leave of absence for Geneva Bryant was approved. Bids for 10 new buses were accepted from Anstaett Dodge Batavia and Fort Valley Blue Bird bodies subject to State Board approval. John Wiseman honored with Certificate of Service and invited to attend meetings.

Retired CG&E Executive Walter Beckford Dies

Walter C. Beckford former CG&E president and board chairman died Friday in Duxbury Massachusetts at 77. He led CG&E from 1945 and became chairman in 1957 retiring in 1962. Survived by wife Mary, two sons Walter and Eric, and daughter Barbara Batten.

Hereford Association Set To Meet In Russellville Jan 8

The A B C Hereford Association will hold a January 8 meeting at 8 p.m. in Russellville school. Secretary treasurer J C Hazelbaker urged Hereford breeders to attend if planning spring consignments for the April 2 1966 sale and invited Clermont breeders to join the association.

Rowe Named General Chairman of 1966 United Appeal

VA Chairman William Rowe of Fifth Third Union Trust Co was chosen as general chairman for the 1966 United Appeal campaign. The drive, totaling 7,977,985 in 1965, funds 129 agencies across Hamilton and surrounding counties. Rowe, 49, lives in Indian Hill and is active in Cincinnati civic and business circles.

County Officials Name Cann as Chairman and Budget Increases

County commissioners named Stanley F. Cann as chairman. Alfred Ginn was named County Building Inspector effective Feb 1. Salaries across departments were raised with increases for building inspector clerks and a new aerial county survey for a possible local airport. Public utility excise tax distributions totaled 2,513,532.24 with Clermont receiving 20,853.75 and Cuyahoga County the largest payment at 426,732.72. The auditor noted this is in addition to a prior 3.5 million disbursement from the tax funds.

Carlier Seeks Re election to 12th District Seat

Lawrence W. Carlier incumbent state representative from Clermont County announces candidacy for re election in the newly drawn 12th Representative District including Clermont and Brown Counties. He seeks the Democratic Primary nomination in May and holds one year left in the 1964 election cycle.

GE Jet Engine Display at Cherry Grove Plaza

Cherry Grove hosts a General Electric jet engine exhibit this week at Cherry Grove Plaza. The public may view Friday Jan 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday Jan 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors will see the first jet engines and the latest models from GE’s Evendale plant in jet propulsion research.

Harsha Seeks Fourth Term for Ohio Sixth District

Portsmouth Congressman William H. Harsha announced his bid for renomination to the U S House from the Sixth Ohio District. He is in his third term and serves on Public Works and the District of Columbia committees, with top ranking on Rivers and Harbors Subcommittee and roles on Flood Control Roads and the Federal Aid Highway Program subcommittees. Petitions for nomination will be circulated next week.

Three of five top Heart Sunday leaders in Clermont County for 1966 are Carl Hauck J Robert True and Mrs Louis Schwartz. Absent were Mrs Bernard Bolton and Mrs Robert Titus.
