Restoration at old Robinson Mall praised as community hub

The old Robinson Mall hall in Troy is restored by the G A R and Sons of Veterans for their use. Built about 1859 by the late 85 Robinson it hosted dances and political meetings with Menter’s band from Cincinnati.

Lucky Guesser Prizes Won In Lindsley Store Contest

A December 31 contest at H Lindsley and Son awarded a diamond ring to Louis Anstett for guessing the pumpkin seed count at 74 and a gold watch to Dan ny of Brazier for exact time on a watch. Several winners were near misses and the ad notes store closing out shoes while highlighting local happenings.

Winter sports on the dam draw lively moonlit skating

Moonlit nights on the dam provide double use as natatorium and skating ground for local youths and girls. Skaters include Bessie Griffith and Leontine Hulick among others. boys show skill but less grace. Quadrilles amused Friday night though timing disrupted cadences. An Auditor of State table shows for Brown, Clermont, Clinton, Greene, Highland, and Warren counties in the Sixth District a total of 49 convicts and $8 600.18 in costs. Brown pays about twice Clermont for similar counts. Greene spends about $1,000 less to house 14 than Brown did for 5.

Newtonsville shooting affray and jail break report

A Newtonsville correspondent details a shooting where Pickelheimer received about twenty wounds after a road incident with Work who later armed himself and fired a broadside.
