Combs Hehl Bridge Traffic Count Planned After Holidays

The Kentucky Department of Transportation will count traffic on the Combs Hehl Bridge after the holidays. Counters will record average daily traffic for two days January 2 and 3 unless snow affects setup. A second count may occur weeks later to verify the figure.

New Traffic Light at Withamsville Intersection

Commissioner Jerome Wiesenhahn announces a new traffic light at the SR 125 and Mt. Moriah Drive intersection in Withamsville. The light will begin operation soon after recent roadwork near Witham Woods subdivision and is expected to improve traffic flow.

Clermont County board reappoints five to mental retardation panel

Five persons including Kermit Acord and Thomas Wildey were reappointed to four year terms on the Clermont County 169 board of Mental Retardation by county commissioners last week. Viola Wolf, Donna Carman and Alfred M. Dean received two year terms. The reappointments were recommended by Donald A. Collins and George Leicht was reappointed to the Public Defender Commission. Douglas J. Bradford noted all appointees must be attorneys.

Clermont First Baby of the Year Contest Opens

Milacron seeks extension of county's sole tax area

Milacron requests a extension of the county's only tax abatement area for the Afton plant. The company projects completion by March 1980 with construction costs around 1.094 million dollars. They claim abatement would not relieve school or county taxes and note real estate taxes would rise to about 75,800 by 1994 if abatement is granted and additions finished.

Chamber selects Rep Harsha as 1980 Pacesetter

The Clermont County Chamber of Commerce named U S Congressman William H Harsha as the 1980 Pacesetter and will honor him at the annual dinner on January 25. Harsha announced retirement from politics after 20 years in Congress and was noted for work on the Water Quality Act of 1972 and other laws.

A county data processing board was unanimously approved to coordinate computer use across offices. The ADP includes the county auditor treasurer recorder clerk of courts and a commissioner or designee. The board plans a central computer room and annual operating reports.

CIC approves $9 million bonds for Frisch's project

The CIC approves issuing $9 million in industrial revenue bonds to finance Frisch's motel and restaurant project. The action supports construction and employment plans, with the bond terms and conditions to be finalized by the authority and project sponsors.

Architects receive approval for three wings of city complex

Commissioners advanced design on three of five proposed wings for a joint medical and social services complex on Bauer Road west of Batavia near SR 32. Arc and Robert Nordich will develop design plans while seeking state rental support to cover construction of the welfare wing. Frisch's was approved by CIC for a $5 million project on Bealet Drive with a 200-room motel and 200-seat restaurant, but voting results were mixed.

Clermont County piggyback tax funds capital projects

Clermont County has collected 179,564.60 dollars in piggyback sales tax. After approval by commissioners in late April and effective July 1, the tax is earmarked for capital improvements such as a new detention center. The latest October payment totaled 91,580.82 dollars, with prior payments of 76,609.47 and 11,374.31 dollars in November and October respectively. Payments are monthly but lag two months due to collection and certification steps.
