Roberts seeks rezoning to stop stock car races

Glen Este resident Carl Roberts on Teal Lane has applied to Union township zoning officials for a hearing to rezone a 35 acre tract to residential or agricultural. He argues the Glen Este Race Bowl harms health and welfare, citing dust noise and oil from the track contaminating cistern water. The site is on Teal Road about two miles north of State Route 74.

Wuerdeman Dump to Reopen After Health Corrections

Wuerdeman landfill, the county’s only licensed refuse site, is set to reopen later this week after corrective steps to meet health board standards. The dump was closed for coverage lapses and other sanitary rule violations. Concurrently, Williamsburg faced a Wednesday deadline to appeal the health board’s permit denial for the Moore dump on Greenbrier Rd under a temporary injunction.

Planning directors aid county building code efforts

A. E. Suro visited Georgetown Tuesday to assist Brown County Commissioners and county leaders in starting a building code project. He joined a London meeting Monday where Madison County commissioners and the planning commission discussed establishing planning regulations.

Annex Dedication Set For Sunday

The First Baptist Church of New Richmond will dedicate its new annex at 2 30 p m on Sunday Feb 28. It is the church s fourth building project since 1948 and builders contractors and architect William Schillings of Pt Pleasant will be recognized. The ceremony is open to the public.

Extension of MGS Water System Approved

County commissioners approved extending the MGS water system. They authorized engineer Jack Fuller to assess expansion depth so bonds can be sold. Construction aims for completion by November 1 with possible service to areas meeting 35 customers per mile.

Four Discussion Meetings Slated Withamsville PTA Plan

The Withamsville Tabasco PTA education committee schedules four discussion meetings on school relations. March 1 session covers administrators and teachers roles, homework, grading, and testing with Paul Schuch as moderator. Boy Scouts Get Winter Training at Polar Bear Camp

Nearly 300 Clermont County scouts took part in Operation Polar Bear at Christian Assembly camp. The 271 boys from 17 units spent Friday to Sunday learning winter camping skills including tent winterizing and pit cooking under harsh weather conditions.

Welfare Department May Move If School Space Found

The Welfare Department seeks new quarters if rental space is located. Possible sites include removing part of the ice house and bottling works behind the Kroger store to create 3400 square feet plus parking. No final decision has been made.

Heart Sunday Volunteers To Visit Homes Feb 28

February 28 marks Heart Sunday when Clermont County residents join a nationwide drive against heart and blood vessel diseases. Volunteers will visit about 20 homes each between 1 and 3 pm, collecting envelopes with no requirement to reveal gift amounts.

Charles E. Hayes 39 of Mt. Washington died in a crash that killed two other pilots from Champion Paper & Fibre. Hayes was native of Milford and trained with trainer Joe Lockwood and Robert Kern 35. Montgomery Firm Wins MGS Building Contract on Third Bid

County commissioners awarded the construction contract to Russell L. Bowen Co. of Montgomery for the MGS water system administration building after three bid attempts. The low bid of 37 100 exceeded the estimated cost by about 5 000, with the difference covered from the water system contingency fund. The one acre site on Guinea Pike will host the building.

Gas Excise Tax Split Is Made

State Auditor James A. Rhodes announced the second distribution of gasoline excise tax revenues for the year totaling 5,238,845. Cities and villages receive 2,947,645 or 56.2 percent. Counties get 1,760,000 with 20,000 each and townships 531,200 or 400 each.

Youths Arrested Over Vandalism of Eight West Clermont Buses

Five youths aged 13 to 17 were arrested Tuesday on delinquency charges for vandalism involving eight West Clermont school buses and will appear before Judge Orville Halbisch in Juvenile Court. Police admit $300 in damages.
