Sheriff Returns With Kidnapping Suspect in Tow
Sheriff Bert Swing and Mr. Hopping returned with A. B. Murphy, the man detained for the kidnaping of Mr. Hopping’s son. Murphy was jailed in California, the boy in juvenile custody, and both parties began the journey home after news spurred the arrest. The boy’s condition is reported as scarlet fever. the return date remains uncertain.

Former Batavian Attorney Buford Spencer Dies in Norwood
Buford Spencer formerly of Batavia and now of Norwood died at his home Monday after a weeklong illness of flu and pneumonia. He was a bright young attorney regarded highly by all. Survived by a widow and two daughters. Funeral at 2 p.m. Tuesday followed by cremation. The family has many friends’ sympathy.

Truck in Trouble Near Batavia After Four Mile Journey
A Moore's oil truck from Cincinnati ran into trouble while traveling from Stonelick to Batavia. The vehicle covered four miles in four hours, burned its engine just below Batavia, and had to be towed by Ralph Jones. The load consisted of 600 gallons of gasoline and left a tire track in the road where hub deep cuts were made.

Obituary of Dr John J Werner of Batavia Ohio 1920
Dr John J Werner died at his Batavia home on February 12 1920 aged 60 years 2 months and 12 days. Born November 30 1859 in Lohningen Switz he trained as a artillery officer and harness maker before traveling as a journeyman. He came to the United States in 1880 worked in New York Ohio and Kentucky cities and practiced dentistry after graduating from Ohio Dental College in 1887. He married Elizabeth Carpenter June 12 1908 and settled in Batavia where he served as church treasurer and active citizen. He left a devout family and loyal community record.

He was 27, worked at the local foundry, with a widow two children mother and three sisters among survivors. Burial in Georgetown Friday. Infant of Percy Newberry and wife died after long illness, burial Thursday. L Geracia, Batavia fruit store proprietor, died at home of double pneumonia, survived by widow and four children. burial in Reading Ohio Saturday. Frank A Hitch Civil War veteran and deputy sheriff dies at Norwood
Frank A. Hitch formerly of Amelia and deputy sheriff under J C F Tatman died at his Norwood home Tuesday of last week. He served 28 years as a store-keeper in the U S Internal Revenue service, was a Civil War veteran and vice president of the Amelia State Bank. A widow survives him.
