Motorist Dores Bruce Cooper aged 28 of Route 4 Batavia suffered facial and head lacerations and a fractured right ankle after he fell asleep at the wheel and struck an iron bridge railing on State Route 74 at Batavia edge. Man Found Looting Motel Room Charged After Police Chase
Robert Merrick of Covington Kentucky is held in Batavia jail on breaking and entering charges after a motel owner found him in a room at 4 45 am. He fled in a car, was chased by Hamilton County police who fired a shot, his car struck a fence and he was captured and bound over to a grand jury.

Third Holdup In Week Blamed On Organized Gang
Sheriff Derricks links a third armed robbery in one week to an organized gang targeting small independent grocers. Carl Istendorf’s Camargo shop on Guinea Pike was robbed by two masked men. $400 and a cash register loot were taken and Istendorf wounded. Earlier thefts at Jess Morgan’s near Cozaddale and R. B. Gilmore on OSS 22 near Warren County line reported similar methods. No leads yet.
