In a critique of the Wilson administration a writer laments widespread unemployment and hunger. Tramps roam in search of work as soup kitchens replace dinner baskets and capitalists distrust the era, urging a change in leadership to revive prosperity.
Mrs Fr A Hitch assisted by Mrs J Huntington Mrs Henry Trinner and Miss Effie Hutson entertained Clermont Civic Club members and guests at the Hitch home Amelia last Thursday afternoon 2 to 4. The house was decorated with National colors. After contests music a two course luncheon and social hour followed.
In Newtonsville and Edenton, residents advocate centralizing six local schools to create a premier district at an estimated $600 yearly saving. Supt P P Pierce of Cincinnati addressed Newtonsville meeting while Edenton patrons discussed turning to a single better facility with plans for future township sessions.
A 1915 Santa Ana letter surveys California farming, noting rainfall 13.74 inches year to date, walnut and apricot prosperity, and orange county's beet and celery outputs. It highlights walnut value at 1000 per acre, a 21 foot 7 inch walnut trunk, Valencia and naval orange timing, and plans to plant more trees along highways while praising local crops and weather contrasts with the east.

Last Friday night was inspection for Company K with a regular army officer Lieutenant Bankhead and Sergeant Gibeling. The men appeared in drill outfits and looked bright eyed and promising as Captain Bechtel expressed pride in their many fine qualities and readiness.
At a Batavia M E church gathering for the Ohio State Wide Prohibition effort, J O Fuhr of Williamsburg was named president with A T Johnson as vice president and O B Nichols as treasurer. An extensive county central committee and publicity group were established, and an address by Mr. Alter followed.
The Clermont County Educational Association will hold its meeting in Batavia town hall on Saturday February 27. Sup t Geo L Boders will speak on concrete work in elementary grades and Mrs John Hall will discuss. Subjects include tenure law, professional courtesy, pension system, teaching test and score card, school exhibit, parents day, home projects, centralization, common teaching mistakes, agriculture teaching, and relations between principals and teachers.
The First National Bank of Batavia, organized January 1865 and opened March 1, 1865, celebrates its fiftieth anniversary next Monday. The piece lists founders, early officers, and key moves such as the 1875 relocation and 1905 remodeling. A public invitation invites visitors to inspect fifty years of records.
Lent is one week old today marking abstinence and self sacrifice for church members. Catholic observance is strict with a general lull in social events until Easter. Easter falls on April 4 this year, arriving early.
The Iuen home in Owensville hosted a thirtieth wedding anniversary party with a bridal bower of red hearts pink carnations and white ponquins. A three course dinner was praised by Rosa Brown and Andrew Eimer. Guests included Rev James Ward and many families from Owensville and nearby towns. The couple received embroidered doilies cushions napkins towels china silverware pictures and a gift of a player piano from the groom. The gathering closed with compliments and well wishes for many more years of wedded life.
Miss Harriet D. Fitch and William P. Parker were married in Seoul on December 23, 1914, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Miller. Rev. Walter C. Erdman officiated. The couple will reside in Pyen Yang at Union Christian College where Parker teaches mathematics.
John Winemiller and Miss Edna Ansteatt wed at the bride’s parents near Olive Branch. Rev Wagner officiated as 25 guests dined, 65 friends celebrated with games music and dessert. The couple planned a short wedding tour before settling at Brown Below Town.
Byron Williams longtime county educator died at his Williamsburg home Friday night after an 18 month illness. Born April 22, 1848 in Stonelick township he earlier worked in novelty goods and later led Williamsburg and Milford schools. Survived by a widow two daughters and Major Dion Williams US Navy in China. Funeral held Tuesday at the Methodist church Citizens cemetery burial.
The Batavia Odd Fellows announce a literary entertainment on Wednesday night March 10 in their hall. Ice cream and cake will follow the program with admission set at 10 cents. Proceeds aid piano repairs and new music. The lodge reports strong membership growth and two candidates for initiation.
Geo. W. Williams, longtime operator on Main Street Williamsburg, has sold the building and will move his pool room and store to a new Third Street location near the post office on March 1. He invites old customers and new friends to visit the new building designed for his business.
Clinton County voters approved a $300,000 bond issue to build a new courthouse and jail in Wilmington. The measure passed by 238 votes in favor after extensive discussion with support citing the county’s wealth to back the project.
The mothers meeting last Thursday afternoon featured Prof. Heidlebaugh on Child Study offering instructive points for pupils and parents. Mrs. H. S. Moore spoke on Care of the Teeth with stereoptical views at the Comet theatre last fall, drawing praise from all in attendance.
