The Batavia Ohio commissioners consider replacing old public halls with mosaic and steel ceiling plans as an architect drafts proposals. Critics note county spend on attorney fees in the Storey murder trials, urging restraint amid debates on repairs versus bridges and turnpikes.
Farmers Institute to be held at Amelia Town Hall on Friday and Saturday. State lecturers M C Thomas and H A Gossard to open with talks on commercial fertilizer and vegetable insects. Program includes dairy topics, soil fertility, insect control, breeding corn, domestic science, and musical interludes led by Albert Coombs and T H Dawson.

Levi R. White 86 died of pneumonia at his daughter’s home in Kenton after a three day illness. Born June 7 1823 in Clermont he lived in Bantam Milford and Batavia before retiring to Milford and later Yellow Springs. Survived by wife Hannah M. Brown three children John J Edwin Meredith and Alice Marchant plus siblings. Funeral held at Yellow Springs with Rev H C Middleton preaching and a flower covered casket.
Retired barber Frank Jones, after forty years serving the community, sold his shop and moved to a farm last Monday. He will cut hay and sharpen scythes instead of hair, and focus on bay horses. His son Frank succeeds him in the business, expected to carry on the family’s good name and friendships.
Frank Brambeckle of Camp Dennison was arrested in Milford last week for using profane language in profuse quantities on Main Street and fined $8 plus costs. The report notes no precise charge details.
In Norwood last week a vandal poisoned 16 dogs including a St Bernard a collie and a Newfoundland. The writer condemns the act as cruel and unworthy and notes the victims’ value and the harm done to the community.
