A nationwide American Press Association survey of country editors shows 72 percent expect socialism, 21 percent oppose, and 1 percent silent. Majorities oppose compulsory health insurance, favor income tax simplification, and seek reductions in federal spending across agencies including social services and housing. Marine Sergeant To Visit Batavia Next Month

A United States Marine Corps Recruiting Sergeant will visit Batavia each Friday afternoon in March from 1 to 2 pm to interview applicants for enlistment in the Marines and Reserves. Headquarters in Cincinnati seeks men 17 to 28 and women 20 to 30 for immediate enlistment in a short waiting list. Fire at Harry Nordman home in Loveland damages kitchen and appliances totalling about 2000 dollars. Nordman and Mrs Nordman escape unharmed.

A television set valued at about $129 was stolen from Frederick Radio and Television Sales and Service in Bethel after thieves forced a back window with a crowbar. No other merchandise was touched.

Dinner Dance Attended by 238 at Bethel School

Two hundred thirty eight people attended the Republican Men's Club dinner dance on February 16 at Bethel. Local candidates in the May primary were present along with E. O. McCowen and his opponent James H. McElhaney. The Bethel Chapter of the Eastern Star served dinner and the Syncopators of Cincinnati provided music.

Institute Date Set For March 23 At Felicity

A Community Institute will be held at Felicity on March 23 with afternoon and evening sessions. Prizes include three groups of posters nine prizes, canned goods with groups of 3 to 6 cans, three prizes, quilts three prizes, a door prize each session, and one grand prize on the last night. All participants must be at the school auditorium by March 1 at 8 p.m.

Red Cross Campaign Starts March 1 In Clermont County

The Clermont County Chapter of the American Red Cross begins its annual drive on Wednesday March 1 with an $8,500 goal. Campaign chairmen Sterling L Brown John S Woods Robert L Crowe and Ralph A Hill set township quotas at Batavia and Milford meetings. $365,000 has been spent in Clermont County relief from 1927 to 1949.

Home Demonstration Club No 4 met February 13 at Mrs Andre Conover’s home in Amelia and elected officers led by Mrs Bess O'Brien as president and Mrs Patsy Lantz as vice president.
