Batavia Man Rescued at Burnet Woods Lake
Forrest Ely of Batavia and a Cincinnati law student friend rescued a despondent man from drowning at Burnet Woods lake on Tuesday of last week. The friend swam to shore with the victim and Ely aided to bring him ashore. First aid restored life and the man was hospitalized.

John Spires now in state prison for Morris murder names Newt McGraw Nellie McGraw Dixon and Charles McGraw as participants. Spires says the crime happened June 19 1928 in Scioto county and he killed Morris over infatuation with Nellie McGraw. Arrests followed in Scioto county as officials pursued the lead.

Lucky Number Mrs. J B Cover Wins Car Prize

Holdup Attempt Reported Near Batavia After Card Party
On a Tuesday night last week unknown men attempted a holdup on the Williamsburg pike above Batavia. No identity has been established. Earlier the Batavia Catholic Ladies Society held a 500 and euchre party at Hugo hall with Mrs Will Krantz as treasurer for the evening. The would be robbers, seeing cash, fled as the car sped away. Residents are urged to secure money and valuables when traveling after such incidents.

Road repair efforts planned on Bald Point hill
State and county crews visited Bald Point hill in Brown county last week to assess repairs. They found abundant rock on the ground and plan to set the road bed back to reduce slides and breaks. Contractors are ready to bid for the project. Cler mont county will undertake similar work on Davis hill near Batavia and Clark hill north of town as slips accelerate.

Chickens Stolen in Clermont County
Thieves broke into the Kline farm west of Batavia last week and seized 66 white leghorn hens marked with a silver band.
