Batavia Lodge No 104 F and A M conferred the Master Masons degree on Auditor J L Larhnien and Charles Violet Saturday evening. After the ceremony the banquet room reception followed and the new Masters celebrated the achievement. The lodge plans a larger hall on the current site with ground floor rooms better suited for business and fraternal uses.

Mills Gardner Dead Prominent Ohio Politician and Lincoln Elector

Mills Gardner aged 80 of Washington DC and Ohio political prominence died early Sunday. A Methodist churchman and former Ohio senator and congressman, Gardner shaped state and national politics including the 1876 Republican convention. The funeral was held Tuesday in Washington.
