Batavia School Head Resigns and Summer Courses Planned

Robert Lambert, Batavia Local School District superintendent, resigns effective July end. Board meeting February 14 announced summer courses English grammar literature mathematics science government American History free for previously failed students funded by a federal program. John Settles reports remedial reading progress with four programs and teachers named. Driver education begins March 2 with in class and in car training on Saturdays and after school. Registration fee five dollars. state pays thirty dollars per student.

Area Volunteers Aid Heart Sunday Drive

The Heart Sunday Volunteer Corps plans a six county house to house campaign on February 25 in Hamilton Adams Brown Butler Clermont and Warren counties to bring personal action against heart and blood vessel diseases. About fifteen thousand residents are expected to be visited in this crusade across the area.

Merit Scholarship Finalist Betsy Nichols Named

Betsy Nichols of Batavia High School is named a Finalist in the 1967 68 National Merit Scholarship Program. She joins about 14 000 Finalists nationwide and competes for 500 one time 1000 scholarships and 2400 four year Merit Scholarships. Betsy is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Hugh L Nichols II.

Water Projects Up For March Bids

March bids close at 10 am on March 29 for 11 water system improvement projects in the Pierce Union Batavia and Miami Goshen Stonelick systems. Finance sources include revenue bonds and 990000 federal aid approved last year. Projects cover water mains, treatment plant upgrades, booster stations, and storage tank work across several townships and roads.

Committees Form To Study County Hospital Needs

The county forms two committees to study the need and financing of a county hospital. Dr. Carl Sedacca chairs the general committee with Fred Huber, Mrs. Frank Goodnough and Russell. Charles Tilbury leads the financing study with J. F. Stara, Henry Whitt and Lloyd Harlow. County officials attend the initial meeting and discuss voting hurdles and methods for establishing a hospital.

New Richmond Wins County High School Safety Banner Again

New Richmond High School earned the Clermont County High School Safety Council banner for January with the safest drivers, topping standings that included Milford, Northeastern, Amelia, and Goshen. State Patrolman Robert Osborne directed the February 14 program at Northeastern High School and noted driver licensing as a factor.
