A. P. Temple son of G. W. Temple and chemistry professor at Owosso Michigan suffered fatal injuries after an explosion during a class experiment at Clermont. He braved flames to control the blaze, was rescued by the fire department, but collapsed en route to the hospital.

Death of Clermont Attorney Burwell Britton at 83
Clermont obituary notes Burwell Britton of Williamsburg died Monday February 19 after a long illness. Born December 1 1823 in Winchester he moved to Highland county as a child and joined the Masons in 1849. A longtime Clermont lawyer and farmer, he hunted big game in Arkansas and hosted bear venison and wild fowl dinners. Funeral services were held at his home and his remains were escorted to Lynchburg for final interment. He leaves a widow and several children including Herbert, a Clermont attorney.

Guilty Finding for Colonel Shay in Contempt Case
Colonel Thomas Shay was found guilty of contempt of court by Judge Littleford in the Hamilton county common pleas after a weeklong tenure on the charge. The sentence was a burning reprimand with no definite punishment, the judge stating Shay’s own sense of shame should suffice. Highway Robbery Ends Fugitives Pursued After Boulder Attack
Ed Fuller and John Weeks were in a saloon. On the Clark farm road Fuller struck Weeks with a rock then fled as Weeks drew a knife. Weeks, who carried $79, defended himself, injuring Fuller. Fuller, paroled from a reform school a year ago, is at large. Weeks has a swollen cheek and is recovering.

Post Office Robbed at Hamersville in Midnight Heist
Robbers entered the Hamersville Brown County post office Monday night and took 119 cash and 800 stamps valued at 100. Mary J. Dial born May 1, 1824 died February 14, 1906 after a long Christian life at Batavia. She married Joseph Dial April 9, 1810 and reared six children with a stepson. four grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive along with two brothers. Funeral services were held February 16 at 2 p.m. from her daughter’s Wood Street home.
