Milton Jamieson prominent in financial political social and religious circles died at his Main Street home on February 16 1907. He had been ill for months and passed away peacefully in the presence of his children and relatives, surrounded by family and friends.
Milton Jamieson born Williamsburg October 2 1825 lived in Batavia most of his life with early years in Mt Carmel. He trained as a printer then studied law, served in the Mexican War, and practiced with Clarke forming a firm later owning the Courier office. He helped found Batavia’s First National Bank becoming cashier and then president, married twice, supported the Presbyterian church and Masonry, and died after a long public life with funeral services at the Presbyterian Church.
Speakers expressed deep feeling during funeral tributes as the casket lay in the chapel surrounded by palm greenery and floral tributes from friends. The Cincinnati bankers sent a notable floral offering, and the choir performed beautifully with Mrs. Georgia Thompson singing two numbers. Deceased had selected two hymns for the service and the bank closed in respect to its late president.
Attorney General Ellis rules counties must surrender unclaimed State road aid from 1906 7. Only about two thirds filed timely and $300,000 appropriated may return to the general fund. Clermont's 1907 share is 1704 dollars pending county matching funds.
A pleasant social event on Valentine’s Day at the Mt. Hamlet home of Mr. and Mrs B F Moyer. Twelve guests enjoyed a superb dinner with a festive table scene and decor matching the day’s traditions. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Moyer, Hackett, Miley, Smith, Crane, Sommermeyer and Daughters.

The Mt. Crab water tank collapse on the N. and W. road killed Edwin L. Fee, a pumping station employee. His widow Ella Fee pursued damages. the company offered $8,000 cash and expenses, accepted by all, ending the dispute and avoiding litigation.
Last week Batavia faced near butterlessness as Cincinnati milk shortages rippled through the area. Farmers whippings milk and townsfolk fear continued lack may force reliance on goat butter for sustenance.
A Batavia post office scene Saturday at 8 30 shows seven rural mail wagons delivering mail to residents within 28 miles. Routes span 23 to 28 miles, with two daily train services and a plan for omnibus style rural transport debated by a congressman with proposed 5000 dollar funding.
The Brown County News notes Georgetown produced seven generals including U S Grant and three later graduates from National military schools John Walker U S G White and Charles Cochran Clermont paired two senior generals Grant and Corbin with several family regiments yielding multiple regular army officers from major to lieutenant West Point graduates Penn and others serve in Washington and on ships.
During a heavy snowfall Warren Carroll children living near Milford were ejected from a C and C traction car homeward from school. They had prepaid school fares but were refused return tickets and turned off near Chris Ernst’s home. The incident violates the franchise provision to carry school children within three miles of Milford for 5 cents. The case may be referred to the county prosecutor.
Admiral Albert Kautz former rear admiral of the U S Navy died in Florence Italy on Wednesday February 6 aged 68 born in Georgetown a Naval Academy graduate with a long service record He was brother to Captain Fred Kautz of the 60th Ohio and one of four brothers with notable military records Interment will be in the National Cemetery at Washington.
Friday of next week will be observed as a national holiday marking the 175th anniversary of George Washington's birth. Flags should be displayed on school buildings, public structures, and private homes and businesses nationwide.

Due to strong demand for one cent stamps for souvenir postal cards, the Government will issue stamp books containing 24 one cent stamps. Each book will sell for 25 cents and will be available at all offices around March.
The Clermont county case details show Du Brul charged with presenting a fraudulent claim to the Clermont county commissioners and receiving payment. A Brown county jury found him guilty on two counts. he faces 1 to 10 years in prison and was released on $500 bond pending a new trial motion.
A jury awarded plaintiff Florida Campbell 675 dollars in a damages suit for a broken leg suffered when alighting from a train at midnight. Campbell, an employee of Bethel shoe factory, claimed injury on the station platform weeks earlier and sued for 10,000 dollars.
Daughters of Rebecca hosted a Valentine social at their Main Street lodge with about sixty attendees. The evening featured conversation, music, and valentine exchanges followed by a composite luncheon.
