John Elion of Olive Branch was hospitalized last Thursday after a rupture caused by lifting a corn sack. He died at 6 a.m. Saturday at age 64. Survived by his widow, son Earl, and daughter Grace. Funeral Tuesday at Union Cemetery Batavia.
The Batavia Woman's Club holds its next meeting at Mrs Wiseman's home with a program including Responses Anecdotes The Drama of Today and Life and Works of Mrs Leslie Carter presented by Mrs A B Nichols Jo Lugblus and Mrs Cora Griffith.

She leaves a large circle of friends and relatives. The Boys Basketball Tournament Clermont County A A will be held at Batavia February 24 25 27 with games beginning February 24. Tournament drawing 2:30 PM February 17 at the County Superintendent office. Season tickets offered by village superintendents to save time and money. The Girls Basketball Tournament will be held at Bethel March 16 17 19. An entertainment at Olive Branch church Tuesday night February 21 7 80 refreshments proceeds to church and school.

The A C Kinman auction at Olive Branch last week grossed 8500 dollars. The Ladies Aid of Olive Branch sold out three lunches at the counter. Auctioneer A M Ellis and clerk Lott Hulick assisted, with Courier printing 150 bills. Advertising paid.
The union evangelistic campaign starts Sunday February 19 at 7 30 PM at the Presbyterian church. Led by three churches with Mr DeBruin as song leader the effort seeks to foster goodwill, Christian citizenship, strong homes, loyalty to institutions and the soul life of the community. Pastors J W Semrau W B Bonham and H F Stafford invite all residents to attend nightly for two weeks at Presbyterian MK E and United Baptist churches.
Detroit factory output for January reached 91,584 units, shattering all January records and nearly doubling January 1927. W S Knudson announced the surge, with February planned at 112,475 units and March projected above 127,000 to set a new all-time monthly gear shift car record.
Thomas Carr who wandered from the County Home on December 26 was found Sunday afternoon by Ralph and Frank Murphy of Batavia along the creek bank near the home on the island. The nude body showed ice-related injuries and was recovered. the county reward was claimed by the Murphy men. Sheriff Creswell notified and Carr was buried on Monday.
The Young People's Division of the Clermont County Council of Religious Education announces its annual conference at Batavia M. E. Church on February 18. Registration is $1.25 and noon meal 8 cents. Send registrations to Julia Ann Borague, chairman, Batavia.
Shooters gathered at Geo A Huntington’s Hamlet Annex Subdivision on February 10 for a clay pigeon shoot. Guests from Hamilton Highland Brown and Clermont counties praised the hospitality and look forward to another event on February 22 Washingtons Birthday. Scores listed include Huntington 780 and Ansteatt 857 among others.

The Harmony Club of West Amelia hosted a Valentine party and banquet at the homes of Mrs. Henry Laub and Mrs. Will Mehi on February 1. Forty covers were laid with pink and white carnations and club colors. Music and guest talks filled the evening, with two out of town guests Dale McKinney formerly of Paris France and Donald Hancock, a seven year Marine veteran, attending.
Victor Gaskins of Williamsville will assume control of the Estovia branch of Chevrolet on March 1, succeeding Wm Krekeler of the Batavia Miami Motor Company. The Victor Chevrolet Sales Company will operate as an associate office, with Geo Delheimer directing Williamsville, O S Green and A B Davidson as salesmen in Batavia, and Dick Pemberton head of the repair department. The new firm will occupy the Miami Chevrolet quarters.
William W. Judd finishes a five room cottage beside the T. D. Carter residence. Forrest Ely nears completion of his new home as H. J. King makes progress on an attractive house with ample surrounding ground. Batavia shows new life in construction and local improvement.
A new Grange organization began in the U B church basement last Thursday with about 82 charter members. J A Ashton and Williamsburg lodge members guided the effort. Members are mainly farmers and others involved in agricultural work, with family memberships included.
A Washington's Birthday Dance will be held at the Batavia Armory on Wednesday evening February 22, 1928. Music by Middletown's Miamians. Dancing from 8 30 to 1 00. Specialties and novelty dances. Lunch will be furnished by the Catholic Ladies Society.
Former Batavian Mr. Waters who ran the Shadeland Hotel near Olive Branch died in Florida after a car struck him in front of his home. He lived two hours, with his wife and son George residing in Florida for years. He was buried in West Evergreen cemetery in Jacksonville, their home city.
Batavia plans a spring building boom with three modern homes. Frank W. Stagg to erect a house on Water street adjoining his current home. Frank Buckle buys Gregg's subdivision lots on Missouri avenue for a combined residence and business building. L J Pullen acquires Kline Heights lots and will start ground breaking in spring. Kidd and Reynolds handle cement work for Stagg and Pullen. A daughter born to Mr and Mrs Chae Zagr on February 10 at Glen Bate with Dr Os R Colburn in attendance.
