Community Blood Bank Planned For WC Area

WT Credit Union announces a new Withamsville Tabasco area community blood bank planned for Union Township residents. Local members must be named volunteers, with activation target set for April 1 and March for charter member recruitment. A UC Blood Transfusion Service unit will visit after April 1. about 100 join and donate one pint every 2 to 4 years. Inquiries at 759 Ohio Pike. No member cost.

Beech Forest DAR Announces Essay Contest Winners

The Beech Forest Chapter DAR of Williamsburg announced winners of its annual essay contest after reviewing manuscripts from Clermont and Brown County schools. First place went to Mary M. Heyl, eighth grade, St Bernadette School Amelia for an article on Rufus Putnam. Second went to Roy Verley Milford sixth grade for Ulysses Simpson Grant. Third and honorable mentions went to Edward Casagrande St Bernadette seventh grade and Karen Shoupe Milford Miami elementary sixth grade. County commissioners published bids for two new police cruisers for the sheriff.

Landfill Permit Sought in Clermont County

Carl Rubin of Cincinnati filed a landfill operation application in Clermont County with Health Commissioner Dr. Albert Van Sickle. The plan names George Solomon of Cincinnati, experienced in Los Angeles, for site along Stone Lick Williams Corner Road near US 50. Man Gets Probation In Firearms Case

David Gassett, 51, of Batavia, was placed on two years probation by Common Pleas Judge M Dale Osborne after a jury found him guilty on a lesser charge of pointing firearms with intent to injure for a July 1 incident that targeted Macon Lackey, 27, also of Cain Run Road.

Tractor Safety Demos To Address Ohio Tractor Deaths

Safety officials Herbert Bogert and Elwood Sawyer of the Ohio Safety and Hygiene division will demonstrate how more than 40 Ohioans die yearly operating farm tractors. Bogert, from Clermont County, with W. W. Hamilton noting Clermont meetings at Felicity and Williamsburg on Feb 16 and 18, show common fatal causes and prevention. The program, created by the Ohio Cooperative Extension Service and Ohio Farm and Home Safety Committee, aims to curb tractor fatalities.

A Clermont County Common Pleas jury ruled for Donald J. Gilkison and Charles E. Danbury Inc in a $25,000 damages suit arising from a July 2, 1955 auto crash on the West Virginia Turnpike. The Wright family of Cleveland alleged negligence. Vivian Ann Wright 9 was killed and others injured.

Rocket Test Site Proposed In County

A group of rocketeers plans a small rocket test facility in the county near Loveland. The FAA advised contacting county and state officials about restrictions. The issue was referred to prosecutor Ralph Hill after the county commissioners met on Monday.

Amelia Pierce township residents will vote in the November general election on rezoning the Frances and Martha Rapp property at 1438 Locust Lake Rd from residence to business. The trustees re zoned it last Oct 25 and a petition by 351 residents seeks a public vote on Nov 19.

Conscientious Objector Sentenced to One Year

Donald Lee Jordan 25 of Rt 3 was sentenced by U S District Judge John W Peck to one year in the penitentiary after refusing to report for a conscientious objector assignment. Jordan a Jehovahs Witness had been assigned two years at Columbus State Hospital but did not report to the Brown County draft board in Georgetown to accept the work duty.

New Police Chief Hired At Bethel

George Wise Wisecup 52, veteran of 16 years on the Manchester Ohio police force, named Bethel police chief succeeding Larry Collier who resigned January 19 after 20 months. Wisecup has led Manchester police 14 years and served as Adams County deputy sheriff. He begins duties in two weeks at a four year salary of 4800.

University College To Offer Two Year Degrees in Clermont County

Clermont County officials announce the University College of the University of Cincinnati will begin a two-year program at Amelia High School on Clough Pike starting Oct 7 1963. The center offers associate degrees and serves students pursuing career oriented programs general education or pre bachelor credits. A questionnaire survey guided the decision and will fund classes 2 to 6 pm with no impact on the high school schedule.

Hazard At Bridge Subject At Feb 18 Joint Meeting

Williamsburg school representatives asked the county commissioners to meet on February 18 to discuss the Jackson Pike covered bridge turnaround hazard affecting bus routes and children. The county was notified of a $6000 federal child welfare allocation for foster care. Clermont County may file additional February through June 1963 claims. Three bids were opened for county pipes. Armco Drainage and Metal Products bid $6235.92, Republic Steel bid $5744.54, Syro Steel did not bid. The contract was awarded to Republic Steel.

Friday Deadline For Filing For Burley Tobacco Allotment

The final date for filing a new burley tobacco allotment is February 15, 1963. Applications must be submitted to the Clermont ASC county office in Batavia by close of business. Carey W. Thompson urged farmers to apply by the deadline.

County to Spend $5000 for Options on Sewer Sites

County commissioners approved spending 5000 from the general fund to secure option sites for a county wide sewer project. Harlan Mace, Carl Rush, J F Paschal and Ralph Hill met with the board to finalize the step toward federal aid. Reimbursement will occur when revenue bonds are issued.

Cancer Society Aids Ohio Victims Across State

The American Cancer Society Ohio Division reports over 7,000 cancer victims received free aid from 90 local affiliates during the fiscal year ending August 31, 1962. Services included 2,274,696 dressings, nursing calls, patient transport, and in Clermont County 16 recipients received aid and 1,050 dressings were distributed. Total 1962 contributions reached $2,243,146 with diverse sources including business, public employees, clubs, and events.
