County superintendents meet in Batavia this afternoon to draw for tournament venues in Amelia Bethel and Batavia. Full details will follow next week. Tournament dates are February 28 24 and 26.
Contractor Mr. Crene arrives as clearance of right of way starts last week. A 170 foot concrete culvert will be built and a concrete wall from the railroad bridge to the Coombs property will shore the bank. About 57 000 yards of rock and dirt must be excavated. Heavy equipment arrives on site.
J. E. Huheey formerly of Clermont died very suddenly from a heart attack on Friday February 2, in his 77th year. He had lived on Shauler Road for 18 years and in Florida the last 12. Survived by a widow and four daughters in Orlando, a son in Batavia, a brother in Newtown, and two sisters in Beaver Falls.
Charles L. Terhune of 8520 Michigan Avenue Hyde Park freight representative for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was named the oldest active railroad man at the Cincinnati Traffic Club annual dinner at the Netherland Plaza last Wednesday. More than 400 attended. Terhune, 76, remains highly active in the club and Cincinnati business circles.
The Batavia Woman's Club holds its next meeting Saturday at the home of Mrs. W. B. Moore instead of Mrs. P. F. Jamison who is away. Program features Wordsworth poem She was a phantom of delight. The Parade of Wedding Gowns marks Response Marriages. Guests include Mrs. W. B. Moore and Mrs. H. D. Nichols.
Mt. Carmel P. T. A. hosts a card party at Mt. Carmel school house Saturday evening February 17 at 8 oclock. Games include Bridge Five Hundred Lotto Pinochle and Euchre with prizes and a door prize. Admission 26 cents per person. Refreshments.

John Iker and Edgar Barnes charged with cutting with intent to kill Virgil Senabaugh at Hennings Mills were bound over to the grand jury in $500 each after a Saturday hearing before Squire S L Larkin. They entered a plea of not guilty and are boarding with the sheriff while their families stay at home.
Browder Luckett a 66 year old Williams Corner farmer, troubled by finances taxes and scarce work, ended his life with a borrowed rifle in his barn last Thursday after making a bed of gunny sacks. He was found dying by Newt Hadlin, with Dr Allan B. Rapp pronouncing death. Coroner's verdict cites death from gunshot wound. a widow survives.

Batavia resident David Harrigan died Friday morning at home after a long illness. He leaves two brothers and two sisters. Funeral from Holy Trinity on Monday at 10 45. Burial Owensville. Carrie BE McDonald of Summerside dies at home February 10 in her 76th year. Funeral February 18 at 2 pm Summerside M E church. Interment Olive Branch. Mrs Ella Lane visiting son Eldon and family in Hamilton.
State highway patrol will escort motorists with a single headlight or no taillights to the nearest garage for repairs. If no garage is available due to late hours, a warning card is issued with 48 hours to fix the equipment. The card must be returned with the mechanic or attendant’s signature showing completion.
Clermonters Titus and Son of Williamsburg earned a high price for their tobacco on the Banner Warehouse Floor at Maysville last week. The crop sold for 17 dollars 90 cents per hundred, a top rate for the county.
A B Nichols departed for Washington to seek a time extension from Senator Buckley for Clermont county's courthouse project. Congressman Jas K Polk and Harry L Hopkins, National Administrator of the CWA, press for more time as current deadline May 1 looms and completion seems unlikely.
E B Baugh announces a county wide series of corn-hog meetings in Clermont County. The first was held at Williamsburg High School on Monday February 13 with subsequent sessions in Academy Locust Corner New Richmond Owensville Bethel Batavia Felicity Permtown Laurel Newtonsville Goshen Moscow Mt Carmel and Perintown through February 26. Afternoon sessions start at two and evening sessions at eight. All corn hog growers are urged to attend the nearest meeting and farmers receiving letters will be notified.
Several Georgetown Shoe Factory employees from Williamsburg and nearby towns were injured Thursday evening when two cars passed and went into a ditch. Ebon Durbin suffered a fractured skull and facial injuries. Archie Durbin contusions. Helen Cueno cuts. Pagey Cramer severe throat cut. P Stewart and sister minor facial and arm injuries. Medical staff from Williamsburg and Owensville treated the injured.

The first league gathering occurred last Monday night in New Richmond with several teams in attendance. Officials discussed expanding the league, with four to six more teams likely to join later and all county teams invited to participate. The next meeting is set for Monday night March 6 at the Amelia Garage in Amelia. Bud Foster and family of Piketon visited Louis Buerkle and wife Monday.
Harold Predmore former Cler monter and prominent Hillsboro attorney was last week reappointed city solicitor of Hillsboro for a two year term. He is the son of Dr A G Predmore of Marathon.
The Ohio Republican State Central Committee calls a statewide meeting in Columbus during the first week of March. Chairman Ed Schorr will set the date, appoint committees, and arrange plans for a large open door event with equal luncheon representation for all counties based on their Republican vote.
Misses Stella and Marietta Herr man and Lester Heyer with the Herr man family observed the 26th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Wm Herr man on Sunday February 11.
Georgetown boys beat Batavia 82 to 20 while Georgetown girls won 21 to 12 despite frigid conditions and poor attendance. Referee Harry Cover from Batavia officiated. other results show Moscow girls 31 New Rich 37 and mixed boys and girls scores from Owensville and HF.
The undefeated Amelia girls beat Williamsburg 43 to 1 on Friday night. The first half ended 30 to 0. The Williamsburg boys won a close game 33 to 32. Next Friday Amelia closes the regular schedule at home against Felicity.
Mt Carmel boys beat Locust Corner 34 to 24 and girls edged 22 to 20 after a review confirmed the girls win by one point. The Mt Carmel squads travel to Batavia Friday February 16 at 6 45 p m to face Batavia grade and freshman teams.
The Mt. Carmel PTA will hold a Founders Day program Friday afternoon February 16 at 2 oclock. A group of members will participate and organizers aim for a strong meeting. All members and those interested in schools are invited. refreshments will be served.
Spanish War Veterans chapters of Cincinnati Covington and Newport held memorial services at Memorial Hall and Elm streets. They strewn flowers on the Ohio River in memory of the 1898 sinking of the battleship Maine in Havana harbor before a post service parade to the river.
Miss Viola Hall daughter of Mrs Eliza Hall of Covington Kentucky married Gordon Bennie velle Hicks in Covington Kentucky ceremony conducted by Rev H Runyan. The couple departed for Florida after the wedding.
In Clermont County pool play at Bata via on Thursday and Monday nights Williams burg and Batavia led with high scores. Batavia 200, Williamsburg 190. Amelia boys 129, New Richmond 200. Amelia 180, New Richmond 200. New Richmond defeated Amelia 200 to 180 last Thursday night.
Batavia Garden Club will hold its meeting at the home of Mrs J I Kidd on Monday February 19 at 2 30. Members will discuss garden designs and plant selections for the coming season.
