Education critic Geo. S. Benson highlights 11 widely used high school history texts. He warns that ten distortions undermine loyalty to American ideals and promote socialist propaganda, urging parents teachers and citizens to push for corrective materials and civic education.
Burley tobacco growers will vote on marketing quotas for the 1959 crop on Feb 24. Eligible voters include those who produced burley in 1958 or held related Soil Bank or Conservation Reserve acreage. The 1959 allotment is 309,919 acres with a national quota of 492 million pounds. If two thirds approve, quotas and penalties take effect. if disapproved, no quotas or price supports for 1959. Notes on individual farm allotments will follow by mail. The 1928 cross country radio transmission milestone is also mentioned.
