Batavia Week Filled With Shows and Church Events

Last week in Batavia featured a five member traveling company performing six evenings at the town hall with 5 and 10 cent admissions. Revenue after expenses estimated at about 150 dollars. Churches held prayer meetings and quarterly M E events while Rebekah and IOOF lodges hosted meetings and initiations. A Friday box social at the school and basketball games at the armory and by the O N G and Boy Scouts drew solid crowds.

George B Beacham Dies in Williamsburg at 12 PM

George B Beacham of Williamsburg Clermont county died at his home Sunday at noon after a lingering illness begun last October. He served a second term as postmaster and was avidly involved with the Williamsburg Masonic lodge and Presbyterian church where he led Sunday school for 60 years. Funeral was held at the Presbyterian church with Masonic lodge services. He left a widow, one son, five daughters, and many friends.

Granges of Clermont County Install Officers and Plan Year

Clermont county Granges completed installation of officers in January and anticipate a busy year. Amelia Grange No 2015 will confer the 8th and 4th degrees February 12 at 11 a m with a basket dinner and program. Pomona Grange meets in April with State lecturer Harriet Dickson.

The Batavia Public Library asks patrons to search homes for overdue or missing volumes from the Public Library and Ohio State Library. Ohio State books are free to everyone, but the State Library requires payment if lost. Each recovered State book saves Batavia Library at least one dollar.

Drillers Strike Mineral Water At Ansteatt Farm

Drillers on the Ansteatt farm report reaching about 1200 feet in the trenton rock and striking mineral water akin to Carleband Springs Kentucky. The water is valued at 50 to 60 cents per gallon and chemists are analyzing it while developments are eagerly awaited.

Hog Cholera Reaches Reynolds Farm Near Batavia

Hog cholera has appeared on H. M. Reynolds's farm above Batavia killing ten stockers last week while others were affected and killed. Officials have not traced the source, but cattle bought in the city may have transported the germs. Dogs should be kept from running. hog carcasses should be burned or buried with lime and earth to prevent spread.

Green Feeds Better Eggs Say Ohio State University

The Poultry Department at Ohio State University reports that rich golden yolks are preferred by markets, but green range feed is scarce in winter making December and January non productive for such eggs. Winter feeds like yellow corn with clipped alfalfa or sprouted oats color the yolk, while stemmy alfalfa clover fails. Alfalfa and clover sweepings from the hay mow make good poultry feed. An Ohio Egg Show was held during Farmers' Week at Columbus to showcase this color and quality.

Masked Robbers Rob Richard Welner in Milford Suburb

Richard Welner of Milford who works in Cincinnati was attacked by two masked men as he left a car in Brooklyn Milford suburb. They demanded his portable property, he surrendered $14 after a stiff struggle. The marshal was informed but no suspects were found. Welner fears a repeat.

First Lieut. Isaac EB. Titus, formerly stationed at Ft. Logan Colorado, was transferred to Denver last week and placed in charge of the recruiting station there. His friends will be pleased by the promotion.
