Ohio River flood crest nears 58 feet as waters recede

Clermont County residents face continuing danger as the Ohio River crest at 58 feet recedes slowly and relief agencies mobilize. The Red Cross Disaster Relief Committee, eight subcommittees, 20 trucks and 100 men remain on standby with emergency stations planned in Neville, Chile, Moscow, Point Pleasant, and New Richmond.

Batavia and Felicity Teams Split Basketball Games

Two games were played at Batavia High School with Batavia boys losing to Felicity 28 to 24 and Batavia girls losing 23 to 10. The school band provided music while poor weather reduced attendance.

Monroe Township Institute Set For Laurel February 17 18

The regular annual Monroe Township Farmers Institute will be held at the Laurel M E Church on Friday and Saturday February 17 and 18 with state speakers Mrs Beryl White of Greenville and Howard E Hamlin of Columbus Ohio. Local talent will fill the program along with recreation and entertainment. Mrs White is active in Grange Farm Bureau Red Cross and 4 H and Mr Hamlin brings health education experience from the Ohio Department of Health and a long teaching background. The free event is open to the public with officers including Thomas Wildey President Walter Smith Vice President Mrs Jesse McKinley Secretary and Imogene Lillick Hostess.

Felicity Civic Club Plans Centenary Celebration

The Felicity Civic Club, formed by local business and civic leaders, votes May 27 for town events and May 28 with the Methodist Church for a combined centennial homecoming. William Fee founded Felicity and named it from his daughter. plans include a water works grant and a building and loan association.

Bauer Couple Celebrates 25th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Walter Bauer of South Batavia marked their 25th wedding anniversary last Sunday in a gathering that drew many relatives and neighbors. Their daughter Miss Gladys Bauer of Oxford attended the celebration at home for the event.

More than 70 Presbyterian churches in Cincinnati and vicinity invited to city wide conference for adult church workers Sunday afternoon February 12 at Seventh Presbyterian Church. Rev. William F. The Batavia Woman's Club will hold its second annual Community Party on February 9 at 8 p m in the High School Auditorium. Prizes at each table and door prizes, with games offered at tables. Pomona Grange to Study Possibilities

Clermont county Pomona Grange No. 27 approves studying a county wide Rural Library System. The plan envisions a traveling library linked to Cincinnati, funded by tangible taxes, to support rural libraries in Clermont County. Resolution adopted at Amelia on January 28, signed by Master Mark Atchley and Secretary Alice Turner.

Ray Meeker Killed Near Forestville

Ray Herbert Meeker aged 24 was killed January 27 while operating a tractor on the Williams estate near Asbury road south of Forestville. The machine slipped down a steep embankment, overturned five times, and crushed his head and left shoulder. Funeral services were held Monday at Kennedy Funeral Home. Survived by his wife Nora Whitaker Meeker, father B F Meeker, stepmother, three brothers Earl, Glenn and Virgil, and sister Mrs Mildred Masters of Marietta.

Body of Missing Ohio Man Found in Snow Drift

The body of 82 year old Charles Hines, who vanished January 21 from Route 52 near Utopia, was found Sunday by Wilbur Beyersdorfer five miles east of Felicity in Brown County. Deputy Sheriff Edwin Miller said Hines died of exposure. the body was frozen and unmarked. Survived by widow Mary, daughter Agnes, sons David and Charles Jr., all of Utopia, and a brother near Louisville.

Bethel hires Dale Bee as temporary assistant county agent

Dale Bee of Bethel was named Assistant County Agricultural Agent for three months to work with Roy Battles on 4-H club, crops, lime and soils, poultry, and livestock extension programs. State funds cover his salary. Bee is an OSU College of Agriculture graduate with prior 4-H and Farm Security Service experience.

Clermont farmers to know benefits before joining 1939 farm program

Clermont County farmers will be told exactly what benefits they can receive under the 1939 farm program before signing up. E C Saxton notes calculations are under way for each farm and community committee visits will follow to discuss the plan and maximize payments. Farmers must sign the farm plan at the visit to enroll before planting time.

Slot Machine Raid Nets Two Machines In Williamsburg

Sheriff G G Auxier reports a Monday raid in Williamsburg found two slot machines. One at Thompson's filling station and one at the Knauer pool room. Harry Kirk, owner, pleaded guilty before Judge Chas G White and received 90 days in jail, a $50 fine, and costs. the jail term was suspended due to his first offense.
