Batavia’s Oldest Citizen Rachel Hardin Dies After Long Life
Mrs. Rachel Carter Hardin, Batavia’s oldest resident, died Monday at 7 15 a.m. at her daughter’s home on Wood Street after a long illness. Born in Bethel she moved to Batavia at age 20 and lived there over 70 years. She joined the Presbyterian church under Rev. Scofield and was highly regarded for charity. Surviving daughters are Mrs Lynn Gest of New Richmond and Mrs A R Allen of Batavia. Funeral Tuesday at 3 p m from the residence with a sermon by Rev Burdsall and burial in Union Cemetery.
