Fourteen Bills Found Against Pool Hall and Other Indictments
The grand jury returned fourteen bills against Louis Buerkle of Batavia for running a pool room, indicted Harry Fisk for murder in the second degree, and charged several others including Herman Soldier for obscene language, Vallandigham Freeze for carrying a dangerous weapon, Augustus Carr for burglary and larceny, Joseph Martin and Thomas Philips for petit larceny, Robert Willis for assault and battery, and John Youngbluth for assaulting his father. Judge Cowen praised the jury's expeditious work and noted jail conditions under Deputy Hitch. no new jail recommendations were made.
