Mattox Honored On Retirement At County Office Party

C O Mattox retired Monday as Clermont County Building Inspector and was honored at a county commissioners’ party with a cake. Joan Sells resigned courthouse switchboard operator was also honored. Alfred Ginn of New Richmond is named head of the building inspection department.

Fire Levels Hearth Restaurant Adjunct

Cedar Room of The Hearth in Mt Carmel was leveled by a Sunday night fire. Fire department crews arrived at 10 40 p m and fought the blaze until 12 30 a m Monday. Fireman Robert Evans was treated for a nail injury. The Cedar Room formerly housed the Williamsville Mt Carmel American Legion Post.

Examination Announced for Clerk and Carrier Positions

The Post Office Board of U S Civil Service Examiners in Cincinnati Ohio announced an exam for Substitute Clerk and Substitute Carrier at the Cincinnati Post Office. Entrance salary is 257 per hour with no residence requirement. Preference given to applicants from specified Ohio Kentucky and Indiana counties. Development Head to Visit Clermont With Gov Rhodes

Williamsville official Neuenschwander will accompany Governor Rhodes to Clermont County on February 17. The Boost Clermont banquet at Stillmeadow Country Club will honor the governor with 250 business civic and government leaders expected to attend. Miss Wood Named County Co-Chairman of Ohioana

Doris Wood of Batavia is named Clermont County co chairwoman of the Martha Kinney Cooper Ohioana Library Association. The group honors Ohio writers artists and composers and meets twice yearly with the October and spring gatherings highlighting state culture.

Watkins Distributors Set Grand Opening

Mr and Mrs Ridley Brown announce the grand opening of a Watkins Products wholesale and retail distributor at 1 West Main St on Saturday. A weeklong event February 5 to 12 includes refreshments samples and door prizes as they plan to hire 20 to 30 local staff. SBDC Loans First Clermont County Businessman

Mathias N. Fisch of New Richmond becomes the first Clermont County businessman to receive a loan from the Small Business Development Center at 3001 Vine St Cincinnati. Fisch runs Max's Hair Styling and MC Filing and Grinding Service in Amelia for 32 years. Robert Crow of Batavia, a SBCC volunteer, presented the check. SBCC operates from the old Clermont County Home on St Rt 222 with a counselor available Tuesdays 10 am to 4 pm.

Schwartz Seeks Probate Bench in May Primary

County Court Judge Louis J. Schwartz filed his petition Monday for Probate and Juvenile Judge in the Republican Primary on May 3. A three year county bench veteran and former prosecutor, he is a Kentucky and Cincinnati Law School graduate with twelve years in Clermont and Hamilton Counties. He served in World War II in Europe and the Pacific as a Company Commander and holds multiple bar and veterans affiliations. He resides at Neville with wife Diana and three children.

Man Bound Over In Mt. Holly Slaying

Nathan Baillargeon age 25 of New Richmond is bound over to the Clermont County Grand Jury on a first degree manslaughter charge for the Mt. Holly fatal at a service station. Bond set at $10,000 in a hearing before Judge Charles W. Jackson.

Judge Halbisch First Clermont Medicare Card Recipient

Probate Judge Orville W Halbisch of Batavia becomes Clermont County s first senior citizen to receive a Medicare card. Cards mailed start Friday and must be signed by March 31 or enrollment for 65 and older may be delayed two years. Relatives may sign for homebound seniors or visit Social Security offices. Social Security representatives offer visits and the county action commission will aid in locating elderly residents for signup.

Clermont Historical Society elects new officers and trustees

The Clermont Historical Society announces new officers led by John H. Armleder of Batavia as president, with Dr. Phillips F. Greene as vice president and May Jeffries as treasurer. A slate of trustees includes Harry Appel, Harry Clark, Julia Hodges, Herbert Jeffries, and Fred Stairs. Committee chairs cover publicity, news bulletin, village markers, exhibits, genealogy, tours, ways and means, and more. The group also signed papers to acquire the Maynard house above the Capt Anthony Meldahl Locks and dam at Chile, with original furniture donated by Mrs. Alice Jarman for 15 years.

Fire Claims Life Of Elderly Man In Williamsburg

George Hawley, 76, of Gay Street Williamsburg, died in a house fire late Monday. His body was found inside the burning home near the back door after he had fled to summon help and returned to save possessions. Fire crews worked thirty minutes but could not revive him. He leaves a son, Ray, an insurance agent in Owensville.

Auto Dealer Cann Bitten By Dog

Paul Cann forty six of Cann Ford Batavia was bitten on the face by a dog at the home of Brice Hendrixson on Rt 222 while checking a furnace and feeding the dog. The German shepherd attacked him as he prepared to leave, leaving cuts that required 23 stitches at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital.

Brown to Appoint 2 Election Officials in Clermont County

Secretary of State Ted W. Brown plans a traveling office tour in Ohio from February 8 to appoint 176 boards of elections members. He will interview one Democrat and one Republican in Clermont County at the Sheraton-Gibson Hotel in Cincinnati on February 15 for four-year terms beginning March 1.
