Clermont River towns begin rehabilitation program

Floods along the Ohio River prompted a county wide recovery effort led by the Red Cross WPA and County Health Board. Cleanup sanitation and shelter efforts involve 250 WPA workers with three units plus 50 sanitation staff to restore New Richmond Felicity and Batavia areas while health measures prevent typhoid fever and looting.

Hayden seeks one million flood relief appropriation

Clermont County state representative John Hayden introduces Ohio House Bill 122 seeking a one million dollar emergency appropriation to the Emergency Board for flood relief in the Ohio River valley. The measure declares an emergency and empowers the board to allocate funds and appoint agents as needed. Hayden also urges federal and state action to aid roads and school rehabilitation in flooded areas.

Clermont County Declares Flooded Ohio River Districts Unfit for Habitation

The Clermont County Health District declares land below the 79 foot Ohio River flood stage as flooded and uninhabitable. The board bans nighttime boat travel in flooded areas from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m and imposes penalties up to 100 dollars or 30 days imprisonment for violations. Emergency status takes effect immediately under Ohio law.

Old Man River Recedes After Historic Ohio Floods

The Ohio River rose to record highs flooding homes and farms and tearing down barns and foundations. Many families lost everything while local citizens and public agencies provided food, clothing, shelter, and aid. The dog warden shelters about 65 animals awaiting new homes.

County Health Officer Returns to Lead Rehabilitation Effort

Dr. J. A. Carter resumes duties as county health officer after training in Michigan. The County Board of Health dismissed acting commissioner Dr. C. C. Beale, and Carter jointly leads the rehabilitation program with Tom Hall, county sanitation officer, directing efforts in river towns.

Bill to empower RFC for flood area rehabilitation loans

Congressman James G. Polk introduces a bill to authorize the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to loan funds for repair, construction, and rehabilitation of flood damage. Loans may cover private property, utilities, or public districts with collateral and 10 to 20 year maturities.

Laurel Man Burns to Death in Winchester Tourist Camp

Laurel resident Howard McKinley 3Q, son of Dale McKinley Monroe Township clerk, died in a fire at a Winchester Virginia tourist camp during a flood. Mrs. Miller also burned. seven others escaped. Funeral services scheduled Thursday at Kennedy Funeral Home Bethel.
