The 3rd of February 1864 saw a massive Soldiers' Supper in Williamsburg, Ohio, hosting 409 guests from town and nearby regiments. The event honored veterans bound for campaigns, with wives and sweethearts joining, and featured speeches, songs, and a generous spread as lines of departing soldiers prepared for new enlistments and further battles.
Byron Williams of Williamsburg Ohio recalls Civil War marches with Sherman Grant and pursuit of Richmond and Appomattox. Donations supported a relief fund, and a banquet followed to aid the cause, praised as a golden age of heroism by participants. Mrs Jemima Duckwall wife of William Duckwall died at her Milford home yesterday morning February 2 1897 in her 45th year. She was daughter of Nicholas Gatch former county sheriff and leaves one daughter Katie about 18. A prominent milford society figure she was noted for character and sweetness. Funeral at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the residence.

In Campbell County Court Mary E Seard alias Blue Grass belle married Alonzo Dorsey a lad under 21 whose father runs a Moscow livery stable. Baby Beard alleges the elder Dorsey pressures marital separation and disinheritance prompting damages and relief while no charges are stated against the wife. Both parties are described as children.
Rev A B Brown, pastor of the M F E church at Marathon, was riding a light road cart to New Richmond when his horse startled near a bridge. The cart flipped, throwing Brown head first. A bystander calmed the horse. Brown sustained a severe cut over the eye but resumed his journey after repairs. The incident occurred as plans for a new Marathon parsonage were underway and Brown’s trip related to the work in New Richmond.
Cora B Swisshobu a 20 year old girl of Hillsboro gave birth to an illegitimate child on a frigid night then threw it naked into the yard where it died after about twelve hours. A physician found the infant in the snow and the mother is reported in critical condition. Attorney L A Ineron of Cincinnati was transacting business in Batavia Saturday.
Hillsboro Republican Amos Hopkins of Union Chapel owns a gray old mare said to be a Civil War relic. The animal, four years old in ownership terms, traced back to a Kentucky raid era wagon train. Hopkins will support the aging horse in its declining years.
Dick Darnell of Plain City owns a cat that rarely visits neighbors yet the feline roused Mrs Durpell last Sunday when it pawed her face. She found a blaze in her oak stove that could have burned the house, if the cat had not stirred her to action and the fire was quickly put out.
A western correspondent to a New York paper quotes Mark Hanna saying James Boyle and Joseph Smith were well paid for their services in the campaign and that the administration would not be under special obligations. The item blends political rumor with a dated health ad urging Hood's Sarsaparilla to preserve blood.
David C. Pennywitt an old steamboat man and well known to many citizens died at his home in Manchester last Thursday. He was one of the oldest Masons in the State and was aged 79 years. Mr and Mrs Thomas J Leeds of Georgetown have been called to part with their youngest child Walter a bright boy of 16 years crippled from birth yet of cheerful disposition and sunny nature. Clermont friends join in sincere sympathy.

H C Jeremiah of Tobacco, a district lecturer and well known Mason, visited Brown county lodges last week. The Brown County News notes his annual visit and praises his zeal, knowledge, and cordial manner. Georgetown friends extend good wishes for his continued success.

In Highland county two miles west of Sugartee Ridge a United Brethren church faces a factional fight over a hanging lamp. Minnie Roberts, daughter of farmer James Roberts and member of the church, removed the lamp for cleaning. Trustees swore out a warrant, she was brought before Squire Webster and fined 10 dollars plus costs totaling 19 dollars and 20 cents.
