Batavia High School's industrial arts program, led by Mr. Parrott for fourteen years, uses a project method that lets about 68 students plan and complete their own projects with minimal supervision. Rudy Zagar and Al Bliel serve as student foremen guiding shop maintenance.
The 1950 annual report shows four new appointees Guy E. Holmes Bethel Rev George S Downs Moscow Ernest Ruffner Williamsburg and fifth member Juvenile Judge Orville W Halbisch. Total funds for child care reach 21924 68 with 2511 41 collected from parents and 16903 32 paid for care plus 1086 39 for medical and 2074 91 for clothing.
Don ald Corsmeier, 24, army veteran stricken with polio in September 1949, writes to Mrs. Margaret Abbott praising Clermont County polio unit for hospital care therapy and equipment. He notes admission to Ft. Thomas hospital for rehabilitation on January 17 and gratitude for county unit and host family support from Ohio Pike aunt and uncle.
William Dumford president announces 170 new members joining the Clermont County Farm Bureau. Batavia Township leads gains from 62 in 1950 to 96, with more memberships still arriving for Batavia and thirteen townships. County total reaches 865 members.
Joe Clasgens of the J. & H. Clasgens Woolen Mill Co. New Richmond said Clasgens Company completed the purchase of the P. Sullivan Shoe Factory building in Bethel. Inspectors reviewed premises and fire sprinkler repairs as the building, previously used to store woolens and other materials, changes hands.
Amelia Community Institute announces more than 100 prizes for its March 12 program including door prizes and a grand prize. Entries for crochet novelties artificial flowers pipe cleaner pixies canned goods and more must be brought to Amelia School house by Thursday March 1 before 1 p m. Snap shot rules to be published next week.
The Cler mont County Woman's Republican Club and the Citizens' Republican Club will hold a regular meeting at the Amelia School house on Thursday February 8 at 8 pm. The clubs will entertain the New Richmond and Batavia colored Republican clubs.
Ensign Joseph C. McCoy Jr. of Batavia has been called to active duty with the U S Navy. He reports in February for four weeks of combat information center training at Boston. McCoy, a Miami University graduate in 1949, has been with Crosley Broadcasting in Cincinnati as assistant to the director of research.
The Amelia and Williamsville fire departments fought a fourth large Clermont County barn blaze this year on Concord Road near Amelia. T.J. Fischesser's barn burned, costing about 15000 dollars with two horses and equipment lost. origin remains undetermined. Firefighters used pond water due to a water shortage. Other January fires at Martin, Whitmer, and Fiscus barns totaled 39000 dollars in losses.
A 24 year old Euclid Ohio man Fred L Lynch was arrested in Newtown by Chief Edward Colonel of Batavia and Chief Robert Davidson of Newtown on four counts of passing bad checks. He is bound over to the Clermont County grand jury on $2000 bond with requests from Dayton Xenia Cleveland Lima and Anderson Indiana for related charges.
Sergeant G Thomas of the State Highway Patrol will address the Clermont Peace Officers Association in Batavia courthouse on Wednesday February 7. He will discuss the powers and duties of a police officer and participate in a round table discussion with Sgt. Thomas Cpl C H Brown Sheriff Clyde Dericks and Chief Fred Holt. A Rosary Altar Society card party at St Louis Owensville Mueller's Hall Sunday February 4 begins at 8 pm featuring Euchre Five Hundred Bridge Pinochle and Canasta.
Clermont County Edu Rec Club met January 20 1951 at Batavia School Auditorium with over 60 members and visitors. After a brief business meeting group singing and a film Cheese Family Album followed by square and folk dancing. Next meeting set for February 17 at Bethel School auditorium at 8 pm.
Donald Lee Ramsey of Amelia finishes boat training at Great Lakes and is stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville Florida. He completes required programs and reports to duty in Jacksonville for active service with the Navy's flight readiness unit.
Eleanor Coyle widow of Batavia postmaster Claude S. Coyle has filed for a temporary appointment to fill her husband’s post. The application is with Congressman James G. Polk and will go to U S Postal authorities then to President Truman for final approval. If granted she would later take a regular federal exam for a permanent post. Betty Moore serves as acting senior clerk.
Former Captain Raymond E. Fleig of New Richmond has been promoted to major. The Silver Star Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient is training state reserves in Charleston West Virginia. Fleig enlisted in 1940 and served in World War II.
