More than two thousand Clermont county residents owe $91,596.51 in delinquent taxes, with $72,517.95 unpaid for three years or more. County officials plan direct payments or foreclosures, under a new law requiring public listing of delinquent taxpayers.
Lt John Kramer has been promoted to captain after a year in the Air Corps abroad. He practiced medicine before entering the service and lived in Ada, Ohio.
Wilson E Brunk 63 of Branch Hill admits firing the shot that killed Herman E Stafford of Dayton after an argument over Brunk’s wife. Brunk is jailed with his wife awaiting murder or manslaughter charges.
Florence and Charles Woods sue Charles Neuman and Bud Neuman in two separate actions filed in the Court of Common Pleas. Damages sought total 11 000 for injuries after a July 4 crash on Route 74 between Batavia and Williamsburg. Woods claims 1 388 in lost wages plus hospital and medical costs. wife also alleges wage losses.
Air Cadet Ralph E. Patchell son of Lloyd R. Patchell Route 3 has completed basic flying training at Marana Army Air Field Tucson and is transferred to Luke Field Phoenix for advanced training He is a Pauls Valley High School and Dayton School of Business graduate awaiting silver wings as Army Air Corps pilot He previously worked as a blue printer at Wright Field Dayton and was chief clerk in the Supply Department at Will Rogers Field Oklahoma City
Joe P Moeschl longtime Batavia State Highway Department engineer died suddenly at his Middletown home on Christmas He returned home feeling unwell told his daughter he was not well and died before his wife returned Survivors include his wife daughter Mary Ann and his mother Nell Moeschl of Kentucky Funeral services were held in Middletown with burial in Batavia Also survived by two sisters and a brother from Cincinnati Deer Park and Latonia Kentucky locations.
News arrives of the passing of Mrs. L H Padgett aged ninety four formerly of Clermont county where she spent fifty years. The widow of a local figure lived in Chautauqua Kansas since 1900 and died December 24. She was the oldest child of the late James Harvey Gates.
Government ration notices list expiration dates for A-8 gasoline coupons in 17 east coast states through February 8 and A-9 in other states through January 21. Sugar stamp No 29 and Brown stamps L through Q also show January deadlines. Green stamps D through F expire January 20.
Batavia Post Office reports a record Christmas mail run with orderly processing by Dec 23. Postmaster Coyle cites early starts in September, Army and Navy parcels cleared promptly, and war bond purchases reducing package volume as factors.
The Tele phone Exchange young women held their annual Christmas party at Mr and Mrs Walter Lytle home. Activities included Chinese checkers contests led by Miss Holdcraft and a turkey supper at eleven. Attendees included Miss Holdcraft Irene Reynolds Emma Porste Elynor Durham Sophia Bulow Mildred Pringle Ana Lou Moore Dorothy Jean Reed Lillian Reisinger Imogene Moore Gloria Haney Evelyn Davis Lyda Lytle and the hosts.

Key actions include the Army 4 Award discussion led by Elmer F Kruse and introduction of the farmer representative, Captain J Caldwell’s address, and Robert R Caldwell accepting Clermont County’s War Board award.
William Schwey files in Common Pleas against Charles H. Howard alleging contract violation for 240 dollars in rent. Howard, resident on the Ohio pike, bought a meat market from Schwey and leased the Buck building, but failed to pay agreed rent, forcing Schwey to cover costs.
Mr and Mrs Tom Wildey of New Richmond announce the engagement of their daughter Ethel Ruth Wildey to Wallace H Maw son of Mr and Mrs George A Maw of Loveland. Miss Wildey is a Wilmington College graduate and has studied at the University of Cincinnati and teaches at Franklin District School Clermont County. Wallace Maw is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and the National Training School for Executives of the Boy Scouts of America and is pursuing a Master’s at Miami University. He is a member of Kappa Sigma and Sigma Zeta and serves as the Boy Scouts executive for Clermont and Brown counties. No wedding date has been set.
The Clermont County Soil Conservation District certified five supervisors Elmer Norris Guy Jones Albert Kistner Robert Caldwell and organized the county group with Norris as chairman Jones as vice chairman Kistner as secretary treasurer The District office is in Batavia at the Court House Annex and Dwight Robison was assigned to assist in farm planning for soil and water conservation Farmers may contact any supervisor Don Rehl the County Agent or the Soil Conservation Service office for help and farm programs.
William W. Dufau of Milford is named Acting United States Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio to succeed Charles H. Sisson who died last Saturday. Dufau, 47, has been Chief Deputy in the Cincinnati Marshal’s office since 1942 and began as a field deputy eight years ago. Judges Druffel Nevin and Underwood approved the appointment by telephoning yesterday and signing the order today. The post pays 5600 dollars yearly. Dufau is a Clermont county native raised in Way township with ties to Democratic circles and service on local party committees and in Fayetteville education boards.
Pfe. Ross Alfred Blackburn visits Neville with his wife Mrs. Virginia Donovan Blackburn and their son, while he is stationed in Fairbanks Alaska.
A U S Army representative will join a flag raising and band at Batavia School auditorium Tuesday afternoon for Clermont county to receive the 1943 A award for excellence in agricultural food production. A half hour of programming on WLW will cover the event with officials Saxton and Rehl presenting.
The two room Perintown school with forty eight pupils gathered 10000 pounds of waste paper during a county scrap drive. Clermont county’s top district collected 78 tons earning over 1100 dollars to be shared among schools. Principal Mrs J W Evans and teacher Mrs Julia Roberts led the effort.
Postmaster Coyle announces transfer of portions of rural routes from Amelia to Batavia due to office congestion. About 560 patrons and 170 boxes affected across three Amelia routes now joined to Batavia, with Route 1 carrier Raymond Ross. Growth near Amelia prompts the move as 250 new homes transform pasture into a budding settlement.
