Calvary Crossroads: Historic Pump Site and Lost Ohio Valley Past
A look at Calvary Crossroads at Ohio routes 756 and 743 reveals a vanished watering pump once used by travelers and animals. Nearby Wood and Manning Station hosted Kenton and Boone in the 1790s, with Wood family graves and Wood’s Cemetery nearby. Calvary Church, built 1872, stands vacant with plans to restore its bell, while German immigrant graves from the 1830s mark frontier life and a toll road past Moscow. The site recalls toll roads, homecomings, and World War II to late 20th century shifts, preserving echoes of a bygone era.
