Outi Holopainen a Finnish American Field Service student at Batavia High School during 1967-68 sends Merry Christmas and Happy New Year wishes to Batavia residents. She notes her home Christmas will be half Finnish and half American and she misses everyone. She plans that her Batavia High diploma will aid her university entrance.
Judge C Luther Swaim in Clermont County Common Pleas Court dismissed a suit by taxpayers aimed at halting public funding for transporting parochial students. He ruled the State Board of Education should be a party but could not be sued in Clermont County, with related suits in Franklin County. Precedents from New Jersey and New York cited support for providing services or materials to private or parochial students.
Williamsburg Rotary Club plans its second annual New Year’s Day Sauerkraut Dinner from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Fire House. Dave Shelton Fred Vaught and George Chapman named official makers of the sauerkraut with committees to ensure quick service. Proceeds go to the Williamsburg School Athletic Boosters Club and the Music Department. Join for a worthy cause.
Contractors submit bids for six divisions of the Farmers Home Administration funded water project south and north of Bethel New Richmond Road. Preston Carroll of Knoxville TN leads A-1 and A-2 with 1 982 923 total, 7 percent discount included. Division C low bid goes to Glenn Rhoads Construction Co Mt Crab. Division D bids vary, with estimate at 75 000.
Clermont County ASC shifted its Friday operations from West Main Street to SR 132 between Batavia and Owensville. The office opened as usual Monday. Monroe Township trustees to auction 250 feet of 2.5 inch firehose at 10 a.m. January 4 from the Monroe Township Firehouse. Hose features Cincinnati Thread fittings. Legend recalls St Nicholas and Befana delivering Yule gifts.
OWENSVILLE Clermont County receives a gift of a former Blanchester Youth Foundation building. Miss Aletha Pattison of Cincinnati buys the structure to move to US 50 west of Owensville for a park memory to her father John M Pattison Clermont County’s only Governor of Ohio who died in 1906. Former Clermont Planning Commission director Donald Buckley helped design the park. Glen McHenry notes local funds could not support repairs. An oil portrait of Pattison hangs in the county courthouse.
The Citizens Bank of Felicity announces filings to open branch offices in Milford and Batavia with the State Superintendent of Banking. Melvin Swope, the bank president, disclosed the plans in a public legal notice this week.
The Mid Western Children's Home at Milford Ohio thanks readers for supplying stamp books that funded a new van bus. Superintendent Carson Spivey notes the bus enables hauling and care for homeless children and invites further stamp book donations to meet other needs.
