Roving Willie Found Dead on Hobo Island Near Loveland

Hunters from Norwood found a 71 year old man on Hobo Island below Loveland Friday afternoon. The body showed exposure and starvation, weighed 135 pounds with gray hair and blue eyes. Coroner Sam White and Dr. Studenburg ruled death from exposure. He lived a wanderer’s life, slept outdoors, and survived on charity.

Christmas Cantata “Angelic Tidings” at U B Church

A 24 voice choir presented the Christmas Cantata Angelic Tidings at the U B church last Sunday night. The large audience enjoyed the program and praised Rev Smith and the choir for their well prepared and polished rendition.

Herbert Reed known as Bert Reed, longtime cashier of New Richmond National Bank and former county and state official, dies suddenly of a heart attack at New Richmond after returning from Batavia. He served Clermont as deputy auditor, auditor, and secretary of the state tax commission. Funeral held at New Richmond and burial in Chile. Reed planned to be named bank president in June.

Red Cross Sees Clermont Townships Boost in Membership

Clermont county Red Cross reports final returns from Goshen township show a 50 percent rise over last year. The Goshen School posts a 100 percent increase with full enrollment of students and teachers. Countywide lists will be published by township once all finals are in.

Farm Home Burns Near Amelia in Four Thousand Loss

A seven room frame house owned by J Beuschau sen burned Tuesday at 6 pm one mile east of Amelia. Loss is estimated at 4000 dollars. Cause is a short circuit. No one was home at the time. Amelia fire department responded. Mr and Mrs H M Turner of Springfield Ohio were holiday guests of Mr and Mrs K H Turner and son.

Roy D. Goodwin Dies After Long Illness

Roy D. Goodwin 41 of Bethel, known in Clermont county politics, died last Wednesday evening at his father's home after several years of ill health. Funeral services were held Friday at Kennedy Funeral Home in Bethel. He contributed to newspapers, worked in real estate, ran selling campaigns in many states, and later was connected with the Federal Prohibition Department.

Clermont County to gain 35 pension eligibles at aged homes

A state survey by the Division of Aid for the Aged aims to identify residents in Clermont County homes for the aged who qualify for pensions. The plan could shift upkeep costs from local taxpayers as state funds begin flowing to eligible residents. The December 1 payroll totaled $2,252.00 for the county infirmary residents.

Ripley tobacco market closes its second week with 296,502 pounds sold for 46,272.96 dollars, an average of 15.61. Most offerings were inferior, though two crops stood out: Edgar Tucker’s Felicity lot averaged 31.34 and Jake Frebis’ Ripley lot averaged 29.84. James Edward Jackson a 33rd degree Mason died after a long illness at his brother Charles Jackson's Batavia home on December 13. Funeral rites were conducted at Union Baptist Church Cincinnati with a Scottish Rite ceremony on Sunday. His Scottish Rite ring was given to his brother Chas a 32nd degree Mason.
