Mrs Mary Kirkpatrick age 96 of Batavia remains spry and energetic. She assists with all household duties for a family of three plus helps her nephew Thomas A Leen at his west Batavia home. Born in Kentucky near Maysville she is a widow of twenty years and mother of six with one living.

Farmhouse Fire Destroys Gus Wolf Property Near Bethel

A farm house on Gus Wolf’s property near Bethel burned last Thursday night. The blaze destroyed the house, its contents, a large still, and 19 barrels of mash. Occupant William Gregg of Cincinnati had resided there briefly. Deputy Sheriff Frank Abbott recovered the still and mask. the structure was partly insured.

Ohio State Grange honors Clermont County at Columbus

Clermont County Granges earned national recognition as one of four and a gold medal earner among eight in the state at the State Grange session in Columbus. Pomona Grange of Clermont received achievement mention as one of three in the state. Master C. J. Nobis was praised for four years of service. County Deputy Wright Wolf was introduced. Master Walter F. Kirk was reelected State Master. Clermont delegates included C. J. Nobis, Mrs. J. D. Wood, Wright Wolf, G. M. Roudebush, Sereh Pollack, Mildred Edgington, with others contributing to an engaging program.

Pioneer Social at Olive Branch church with 80 year old fashions

Offices Moved for County Agricultural Adjustment Office

E B Baugh announces the County Agricultural Adjustment Administration has moved from the old court room area to the Board of Elections building on the second floor of the Hamilton building in Batavia. The move provides larger space as tobacco corn hog and wheat contracts are now housed there. The office operates 8:00 a m to 5:00 p m and staff distribute tobacco tax ballots and adjustment checks while reviewing corn hog compliance records.

Clearing House to Implement Bank Service Charges

Starting January 1 1935 Clermont County banks plan to levy charges on unprofitable accounts and for non-depositors. Fees apply to cashing checks at other banks cashing bond coupons signature guarantees issuing cashier's checks drafts sight and bill of lading drafts collecting notes and accounts buying and selling stocks and bonds exchanging bonds and optional money changing. The policy aligns with common banking practice and local fees are lower than nearby areas.

G. O. P. Meeting in Felicity to Honor Clarence J Brown

Clermont County Republican leaders plan a dinner Thursday night December 20 in Felicity under the County Central Committee. Bruce Daughters chairs the event with Clarence J. Brown as guest of honor. The dinner marks the first in a series to be held across county townships.

Batavia Schools Schedule and Holiday Basket Drive

Batavia will host Felicity Friday at 7 80 p.m. in the armory for the first of two basketball games. The P T A met Thursday in the high school assembly room. A Christmas program by fifth and sixth grades directed by Miss Mary Fishback and Miss Patricia Wilke drew a large crowd. Schools close December 21 at 2 30 and reopen January 7 at 8 45. The district funds a White Christmas program to provide food toys and other items in baskets for needy families with children in school, with strong student involvement.

Man Killed Riding Motorcycle on Route 60 Linden Hill

James Swearingen 35 of Perintown died Saturday night when his motorcycle skidded on a wet road at Linden Hill Route 60. Sheriff Auxier and Coroner Sam White declared accidental death. Swearingen lived on Edwards farm near Perintown and had both legs broken with a crushed skull. Ralph Shriver of Blue Ash injured in a separate car wreck the prior week as the road is noted dangerous to motorists.

James Howard Ludlow son of Charles Ludlow of Mt. Carmel died near Kimberly South Africa last week. A cablegram says he was a diamond importer and cutter formerly with Dumbhe in Cincinnati. He leaves a wife and two children in New York, a brother Clarence in Cincinnati, and Carl at Mt. Carmel.

Ed Miller Sells High Tobacco Basket at Maysville

Ed Miller of Williamsburg township, a noted tobacco raiser, sold the high basket of tobacco at the Banner House floor in Maysville Kentucky on Thursday of last week for 35 cents average. The price set a record for Ohio and Kentucky at that time.

Merchants Split Week With Narrow Georgetown Loss

Batavia Merchants in Coca Cola league split a pair of games last week. They defeated Felicity 39 to 19 at the Armory on Wednesday, then lost to Georgetown 46 to 45 after a seesaw second half. Boles led Batavia with 18 points, Gregg and Hoberg added 10 each, while Mullen scored 15 for Georgetown. Batavia meets Morrow at the Armory on Wednesday December 26 with O N G and Beth el CCC in prelims.

Hamilton Backed For Speaker Role In State House Contest

Representative-elect John Hayden of Clermont County returned from Columbus where he supported Arthur Hamilton of Lebanon for speaker, a position Hamilton won with 44 votes on the first ballot. Hayden aided the candidacy of Thomas E. Bateman for the house clerkship.
