Brothers in Law in Jail on Abandonment Charge
George Kruthaup of Mulberry telegraph operator and his brother in law M C Newel were arrested for abandoning their families. Kruthaup was brought from New York to Clermont County jail by Sheriff Swing and Newel had been arrested in Texas. Both are described as around 38 years old with several children. Kruthaup objected to cuffs on the way back and demanded hotel meals during his stay.

In Cincinnati Eden Park, J B Cover of Williamsburg Ohio struck Mrs Elizabeth Ennis an elderly woman who wandered into the road. Coroner Dr Bauer absolved Cover of fault after an inquiry on December 28 noting Ennis had long been demented and died from an unavoidable accident. Eyewitness E C Strubler testified Cover drove at a moderate speed and could not avert the collision.

An early morning fire in Neville destroyed the home of Dan Shephard and most of the family's belongings. The oldest son knocked a lamp, oil ignited the room, and William Shephard, age unknown, died after severe burns. The family, long residents from Kentucky, received community aid.

Three Robberies Rock Batavia Over Five Weeks
Batavia experienced three burglaries within five weeks. Coyle Implement Co saw a skeleton key entry and about $14 taken. Hoerner restaurant suffered a minor theft of small change. H B Glancy & Co dry goods reported entry through a transom with about $50 stolen. Police expect arrest soon and urge night duty for the day marshal.

Ohio farmers report record wheat sowing and strong crop prospects
Joint report by the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the U S Bureau of Crop Estimates says 2.6 million acres of wheat were sown in Ohio this fall, up 11 percent from last year, with every county showing gains and most in excellent condition. Rye acreage fell about 3 percent to 116,000, while clover and timothy seeding neared 90 percent of normal. Corn husking is nearly finished and fall plowing has increased due to favorable weather.

Charles Seibert of Stonelick, a farmer and expert tobacco raiser, died Tuesday evening from pneumonia brought on by influenza after nursing seven family members. Funeral from St. Philomena Church, Stonelick, with interment there. He was son in law of David Geesner.

KILLED ON TRACK NEAR MAIN STREET CROSSING
John Osborn of Williamsburg was killed last Wednesday night when struck by an east bound passenger train on the Boston pike near Main street crossing. The 70 year old, reportedly hard of hearing, used the track to travel between his boarding house and work at a local furniture factory. Funeral was held Friday with burial at Winchester. Charles Slade and wife are spending the holidays in Norwood.

Clermont county will carry out a summer 1919 reappraisement of real estate. County Auditor Searles assigns assessors in each district, with townships getting multiple appraisers.
