The Clermont County Ohio Association of Teachers adopts Cobb's New Series of Reading Books after a November 28, 1846 meeting at Amelia. The committee praises Cobb's arrangement, full word definitions, and spelling lessons, and faults Sanders and the Eclectic series for orthographic innovations. The report argues for strong language foundations and primary education.
The committee urges adoption of Cobb's new series for schools arguing they promote American patriotism and clear meanings of words. They praise the spelling book as near-perfection, with extensive word lists and careful classification of consonants and diphthongs, noting superior organization over rival texts.
The association recommends adoption of Cobb's New First Book Cobb's New Spelling and Cobb's New Readers in all county schools. They believe replacing similar works will advance elementary instruction among the youth. Authors and publishers listed include B Cavanegat Cincinnati and education officials J K Parker J H Hooker and John Hancock.
The Ohio governor election results were counted in the presence of both legislative branches on the 10th inst and the outcome announced.
