A Clermont County jury voided charges of illegal seizure and disposition of trailer contents against Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks and deputies. The August incident led to a civil action against the sheriff, two deputies, and Dericks bondsman Ohio Casualty Insurance Co. Trial before Judge Lang with special jurors named. Prosecution led by Ray Bradford. defense by Oscar Dumford and the Osborne firm.
Four Loveland athletes and one Newtowner earned awards at college dinners. At Wilmington College Loveland youths John Chipman Jerry Wood and Vince Harmann received grid banquet honors. Dale Keeler also of Loveland won two freshman letters at Xavier University dinner. Buck Motz of Newtown won a senior football letter from Coach Ed Kluska at Xavier University dinner.
In Batavia Julian Earhart promotes rose pot pourri to fund Christmas gifts. She manufactures about 16 gallons over four years selling at $2 a cup. The process includes drying petals layering with salt and spices, aging, and sealing for long lasting fragrance.
Leo Blackburn announced as Republican candidate for Ohio Sixth District petitions filed with Scioto County Board of Elections. He previously carried Clermont in 1952 and lost the general by 324 votes out of 135000. Blackburn, former Ohio Senate member, aims a second bid with a pledge to serve all residents with courtesy and vigor.
Several Clermont County businesses have been approached by a salesman posing as a newspaper employee selling reader advertising. The Courier notes this misrepresentation, urges verification by calling Batavia 34401, and emphasizes the practice is not accepted by the paper.
Auditors Earle B. Kincaid and Commissioner Manley A. Hill say county finances could be harmed as Fred Hoh holds two county jobs. Hoh serves as probation officer and school attendance officer, earning more than Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks who earns 3348 annually and lives at the jail quarters. Clermont County principals oppose moving Roy Thompson from the courthouse to a government building, with the Board of Education vowing to fight the change and seek voter action if needed.
