County in search of computer boss

County auditor James Rymer announced an opening for a computer system manager at a county commission meeting. The plan envisions a $20,000–$30,000 salary and about $50,000 in equipment, with total costs near $500,000 to computerize county government over five or six years. The system will initially handle payroll and property tax work and expand to many functions, using one main computer and 18 terminals in the courthouse basement.

Prize tree swiped by Mt. Carmel students finds no pictures

The first prize winning six-foot Christmas tree decorated by seventh and eighth graders from St. Veronica School in West Clermont was stolen from the office building at 496 Old SR 74 sometime between Sunday noon and Monday morning. Attorney Jerry McBride, Union Township trustee, reported the theft to Chief Detective Jerry Pike, noting no prior thefts of a Christmas tree. Scattered remnants marked the scene outside the Mt. Carmel business district.

Overheated Brakes Cited In Lindale Bus Crash

Pastor confirms brakes overheated as bus carrying nineteen teens and three adults hit a bridge on Laurel Lindale Road. Driver Randy Blalock slowed on a steep approach and steered into the right side of the span, causing the old iron bridge to collapse into Twelve Mile Creek. Nineteen youths and three adults were treated for injuries. several released.

Buckner To Pass County Duties Before City Manager Move

County administrator James D. Buckner begins transferring county responsibilities to Stephen G. Brooks ahead of Buckner’s Jan. 10 transition to Milford city manager. Brooks will provide management services through Dec. 17 at a cost cap of 1343 while handling personnel policy, welfare department talks, and aiding Buckner with familiarization for the new administrator. Croswell Jr. returns from vacation to join the candidate review, with further input from commissioners Carrier and Romohr as they select a successor.
