Leslie remembers Christmases past by Libbie Bennett Courter
Esther Leslie born 1889 in Monroe Township recalls Christmas in the good old days. Stores were luxury few enjoyed and gifts were scarce. She describes bells on buggies, stockings with oranges and candy, a baked chicken dinner, and home grown foods. Her life echoes Laura Ingalls Wilder as a teacher in Indiana who retired after 50 years. Now approaching 95, she lives with her sister Ruth in Point Pleasant.
